Hi I'm marlene

I am a retired educator who has spent most of my life living in several southern states and I am happy to be a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired educator. I have taught middle school, special education and been a school counselor. I have been married for 42 years, have 5 children and 16 grandchildren. My husband was in the Air Force so we lived in CA and Arkansas and later Columbia, SC, and Savannah, GA. We now live in Tuscaloosa, AL (Roll Tide) and plan to stay here. I love doing genealogy and helping with my grandkids.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was about 12 years old, I began to wonder about the other people in the world I was studying about in school and realized there were a lot of people who would never have a chance to learn about Jesus Christ and I wondered how they could be saved as I had been. What made me so special that I had this chance and so many others would never get this opportunity? Then when I was 15, my mother was killed in an accident and I really wondered about what happens after we leave this life. shortly after this, one of my relatives, about my age, said she was going to talk to some Mormon missionaries and I was totally against it. I don't know when I had learned anything negative about Mormons but I just knew they were strange and wrong in their beliefs and I was determined to keep her from getting involved with them. I decided to sit in with her as they talked with her to protect her. To my surprise, for every complaint or question I had, they had a real answer. I began to see God as my Heavenly Father and someone who cared about everyone, even those who never heard of His son, Jesus Christ. He became very real to me. And reading the Book of Mormon brought a special spirit into my life, a feeling I had never had before. The more I read, the more I knew it was a true account of another group of people whom our Savior had spoken to and cared about. Everything in life started to make more sense. I felt a special peace I had not felt before and I knew my Mom was alright too. I wish everyone could feel the same feeling of peace and joy the knowledge of this gospel has brought into my life.

How I live my faith

I try to grow my faith daily through prayer and scripture study. I enjoy serving the Lord by working with his children in our Primary. I have taught classes, led music and helped with other activities with the little ones. I currently work with the adults too helping them learn more about how to teach the children. I also visit sisters in our congregation who I am assigned to watch over and keep our leaders informed of their welfare. I also have sisters (that is what we call our female members) who visit and check on me. I enjoy getting to know those I visit and get to know them and share a gospel message. I still have friends from several other places we have lived by having made such good friends this way.
