Hi I'm Jessica Baksis

I love being a wife and mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 19 years old. I served a full-time mission to Venezuela. I am a wife and mother. I love volunteering in my community. I am currently an AmeriCorps volunteer serving as an Idaho Reads! VISTA at a local elementray school. I set up literacy programs and events and help coordinate volunteers. I am the PTO President at the Middle School where my daughter attends. I enjoy reading, cooking and just spending time with my family playing games and talking.

Why I am a Mormon

I did not grow up in a home where church was attended. Then when I was about 12, I started attending various Christian churches with my maternal grandparents. After a couple of years, I stopped attending church with them because I did not like the way the members of those churches acted. I just did not feel good when I attended them. When I was 18 years old, I was living in Juneau, Alaska with my mom and step-dad. I had started feeling like I needed to go to church again, but I did not know what church to go to. I started praying to God to let me know which church I should go to. Soon, the missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints knocked on my door and gave me a Book of Mormon. They had highlighted some verses and asked me to read them. They said that they would come back in a couple days. I read all the passages and knew right away that the Book of Mormon was true. I couldn't wait for them to come back and teach me more. I knew that God had answered my prayers. I was baptized on Dec. 31, 1988. I love being a member of this Church. I know that God lives and that he loves each one of us personally. We are his children. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, atoned for my sins. He also loves each one of us personally. Joseph Smith was a prophet chosen to restore the true church of Jesus Christ back on the earth. We are lead by a true prophet today. I am so thankful that God answered my prayer and led me to the true and restored gospel. I know that he still answers my prayers and the prayers of all those who seek him in righteousness.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as the president of the girls' group in our ward. This involves teaching them lessons during Sunday class time and organizing activities for them to do on Tuesday nights. I enjoy spending time with these young women. They are a wonderful example to me of faith and charity. They love to serve those in their community and they are a light to the other youth in their schools.
