Hi I'm 'Ilikea

Hawai'i and Utah hold a special place in my heart. I love the ocean, serving a mission, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love nature around me as well as people. I am currently studying Anthropology and Oceanography. I love swimming, diving, climbing, exercising/being active, reading, writing and taking photos. I love libraries and want to have a giant library full of old books one day. I am fascinated with ancient history, specifically the Mayans, Aztecs and Ancient Egypt. I also love science and how it applies to the world and religion; for I believe that science and God truly work hand in hand. I love doing service; specifically writing snail mail to people. I want to learn more about the world, cultures, nature around me. I love animals, adventure and I want to travel the world and meet people from all over. Let's just say that I adore National Geographic and Nova, and all that comes with it. I am currently serving a mission in Los Angeles, California!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I desire to become closer to my Heavenly Father. I have grown up in the Church and I struggled with finding my own. But as I grew older and somewhat wiser, I have realized how much the Church has meant to me and how much I missed it when it wasn't in my life. I love the humanitarian aspect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love the unity that members have with one another, as well as the feeling of just being closer and loved by our Heavenly Father each day that I magnify my calling as a daughter of God. Without the gospel of Jesus Christ, I know that I'd be lost, and I am so grateful for the tender mercies that He gives us. The Lord means the world to me, and each day I am comforted in knowing that if I repent and keep His commandments, that I will return to him and be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I love to serve others and working with people. I love setting goals! Only because that is the way that I can improve as a person. I also live my faith by striving to follow in Christ's footsteps with charity, compassion, and humility. I study the Book of Mormon, Bible and other materials to help strengthen and uplift my life. I just try to love and make everyone feel special. That is my goal in life, and that is how I try to magnify Christ's example in my life. I am also currently serving a full-time mission, and I am striving to live as Christ-like as I can.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

First and foremost, we are taught that every person on this earth are children of God. We are taught to love one another. In regards to homosexuality, I believe that a person who has those tendencies are not sinning. Only if they are acting upon those sexual desires, does that break God's commandments. This law is known as the Law of Chastity, and applies to all. If a heterosexual person commits a sexual act before marriage, then he/she has sinned. So, therefore, if a person who is gay or lesbian commits a sexual act, then they too have sinned. The law is no different. So let me make it clear, that we do not believe that a gay person is a sinner; just because they are attracted to the same sex. It is a matter of acting that is sinful. If a person who is gay continues to live a chaste life, then they too can receive all of God's blessings. I personally admire and respect those people who are gay and continue to live a chaste life. They have an eternal perspective and know that the Lord will pour out his most abundant blessings to those, who amidst their struggles, prevailed against temptation. Our Father in Heaven loves us and He only wants us to succeed. We are all given challenges in this life, and it truly is a matter of how we endure. Show more Show less
