Hi I'm Patricia Shearer

I grew up in Minnesota. I now live in Michigan and volunteer at the Family History Center . I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of eight children, six by birth and two adopted boys. I help care for my mother-in-law while she is living with us. I enjoy researching family history, reading, traveling , exercising, biking and hiking. I enjoy getting together with my family and playing games and visiting historic sites.

Why I am a Mormon

I read the Book of Mormon completely for the first time when I was 21 years old. I was amazed at how often Jesus Christ was mentioned or referred to throughout the book. When I finished I knelt down and prayed to know of its truthfulness. I was given a very strong impression that this book was true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he had been chosen and given the authority by God to be instrumental in restoring Christ's gospel in its fulness. Because of the gospel of Jesus Christ and being obedient to the laws and principles which Christ has given us I am happier and know that I can live with Him again.

How I live my faith

I volunteer at the local Family History Center and research my own family tree and help others to locate their ancestors using computers and microfilm. I visit other women in my church and help them with their needs.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Patricia Shearer
I have equal but different opportunities to serve my fellow man as a woman in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. I have taught lessons, given talks, prayers, and held leadership positions. I work with others within the organization and understand that the priesthood is given as the presiding framework with in which we all function and progress. I do not feel less of a part of the church because I don't hold the priesthood because the priesthood helps me to perform all my duties and blesses my life to progress to my highest level. The priesthood of God has been given to men and they have been tasked with performing their duties as priesthood holders to bless and serve others. I as woman have been given an equal task of performing my duty to use my god given talents to bless and serve others. To me it is the same task but different duties in order to fulfill that task. God is a God of order and I think the way he has set up our opportunity to serve Him is a pretty good one. If performed to the the best of our ability it helps to bless all of us. Show more Show less
