Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In 2012, I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Social Science Teaching for Secondary Ed. and a double minor in TESOL and Middle Eastern Studies. Last year, I explored my love of the Middle East by studying abroad in Israel, Jordan, and Turkey. Currently, I teach history at a school for troubled youth, and I have recently begun my master's in Public Administration. I am passionate about teaching, learning, and helping others. During my free time I enjoy yoga, spending time outdoors, and reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised LDS and grew up in a home where I learned about the Gospel from a young age. My family wasn't always the most consistent with family prayer or scripture study but I never questioned the devotion that my parents had to the Gospel. Their love for the Savior was evident, and they strived to live and raise our family aligned with his teachings. Though my parents were instrumental in laying a foundation, during my teenage years I decided that if I was going to live the Gospel that it needed to be because I had my own testimony. I spent a lot of time trying to determine the life that I wanted to live, but it wasn't until I fully committed that I realized it is only through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that I can reach my full potential. I am especially grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who sent his Son to atone for all of our heartaches, trials, weaknesses, and sins. I know that I have been blessed with far more than I could ever deserve or will ever be able to repay, but I try to live my life in a manner that will make our Heavenly Father proud.

How I live my faith

I live my faith daily by striving to be close to my Heavenly Father and Savior, strengthening my testimony, and trying to serve others. Each morning and evening I begin and end my day by communicating with my Heavenly Father in prayer. Consistently doing this strengthens my relationship with him and helps me to better understand how he communicates to me. Throughout the day, I strive to make choices based on what Christ would have me do. The more I do this, the easier it becomes to make decisions that I know God would approve of. As I build trust with Heavenly Father, I become more confident in and grateful for my life. Each day I spend time studying the scriptures so that I can become more knowledgeable about my faith and increase my testimony of the things I profess to believe. By serving others, I grow to know my Savior better and I am able to feel the love that our Heavenly Father has for all of his children.
