Hi I'm MaryLynn

I'm a Mormon and I like it.

About Me

I am a student studying English Literature with a minor in Music preparing to go to Law School. I grew up playing any kind of sport but quickly learned basketball was not my best, which was proven to me in college when I took a class and got worse! But, with the inner desire to succeed in EVERYTHING I do...I practice the under leg dribble now and again. Discovery is probably my favorite hobby slash activity--whether it be self-discovery: limits and mountains I'm willing to push or conquer, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, new people and cultures, lands and caves, road maps and food, new ways to be better at basketball, images of shadows, philosophy, you name it--I want to discover it. I came from a family challenged by abuse but because of the experiences I have had, my life has become exactly what I want it to be--a chance for possibilities. Life is limitless, it was made to love free and unabashedly, to experience sunlight or the rain--it may sound romantic or too good to be true but that's the beauty of life--it's about discovery.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I Mormon? Because I know that my Savior lives. I know that Jesus Christ lived and died for my sins, personally and lovingly. I know that His plan for us as spirit children of God extends before this life and after--our lives have deliberate meaning and purpose to His grand design. He knows us individually and loves us the same. I know that because my Savior lives and He has a plan, He has taught us it many times through His called prophets. He has restored this plan through Joseph Smith in 1820 and I know that he was truly a prophet of God. I know this because I have felt the Spirit of God testify to my heart that these things are true. I am Mormon because including the Book of Mormon in my life has brought me closer to Christ--because of His restored Gospel, I know that I am a child of God and I can feel Him in my life any time I choose to come to Him.

How I live my faith

From early on, twelve or so, I learned to be involved with the community and other youths my age. And as I got older was given assignments to help lead other teens like me to stand for truth and moral and ethical convictions. Now as an adult, I teach about Christ to my Sunday school through the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon and inspired teachings of the Prophets and Apostles. And because of these oppurtunities it has helped me come closer to my Savior because it has allowed me to apply His teachings and encourages hope that I can be like Him someday.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Prayer, obedience to His will and lots and lots of patience. I have learned that because of my imperfections, I struggle with understanding His will but when I'm obedient despite my uncertainty at times--later on it becomes extremely apparent and I know the He lives. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Oh yes. Today, the Prophet is Thomas S. Monson. He is called of God to lead and direct us as did prophets in the Bible did then. It is a proof that God is consistent and the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. It is a comfort for me to know that especially as I prepare to raise a family that my future children will have consistency and stability knowing their is and always will be, from now on, a physical mouth piece for God. How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

Find the missionaries! Make their day. They walk, ride bikes, knock doors in pairs, are dressed as if going to church, clean cut and wear black tags on their heart that have "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" engraved on them. The pairs come in "Elders" or "Sisters" depending on their gender. Available in both in most countries, nations and people. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

I LOVE the Holy Bible! The Old Testament is one of my favorite groups of scripture to read because it is so rich with history of why Christ was the way He was and is a historical basis on why we believe what we believe today. Show more Show less
