Hi I'm John R. Harding

I love to ski big mountains, I love my family & friends. God has rescued me. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Western United States of America in a home with a Father and Mother that were kind and loving to me. They made it easy to respect them. We worked in the yard on Saturday, went to church on Sunday and had a special night together on Monday night called "Family Night". My two older sisters set a good example for me to follow as the baby brother. We also loved to play sports and do many activities in the mountains and lakes where we lived. Of all the things we did, I liked skiing the big mountains with friends and family the best. To glide down a steep mountain in the greatest snow on earth is amazing. I always had a dream to have my own family and take them on a family ski vacation. This dream has come true. I married the "girl next door" and we have 5 children, along with a labrador retriever. We all snow ski and water ski in the great land where we live. I am a business executive and leader and have an MBA degree and certification as a CPA. I am currently on a leave of absence from employment to serve a 3 year church mission in Georgia - this is a great experience and opportunity to serve others. I am grateful for this blessing in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because as I became aware of the Doctrine of Jesus Christ that is present in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived its teachings. As I did this, I found that my life was rich with meaning and also peace. I found that the full priesthood authority that Jesus Christ had when he lived on the earth was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith in our modern times. Clear evidence of this restoration of the same church that Jesus Christ had when he was on the earth is found in reading the Book of Mormon. This book is ancient scripture that was shown to Joseph Smith by the Angel Moroni. Joseph Smith translated this ancient record by the gift and power of God. Many have tried to prove the Book of Mormon is not ancient scripture and they cannot do it. The great promise contained in Moroni 10:3-5 is that if you will be open and willing to read and ponder the book, then sincerely pray about it, you will know it is true. This is what I have done and this is what millions of successful people have also done. We have received a strong and spiritual answer in our hearts that it is true. Last, I would mention that my family has been healed by the power of the priesthood of God. Very serious illness has been taken away as a priesthood blessing was given to members of my family. Great faith and prayer accompanied these blessings. We testify that the Savior Jesus Christ suffered for our sins and the power of his love and atonement healed our family. But without the restoration of the gospel on the earth and the divine authority of the priesthood, the power to act in God's name, these miracles would not have been possible. We are do grateful. Faith in Jesus Christ + Priesthood Authority + The Atonement of Jesus Christ = Miracles in our Lives.

How I live my faith

There are incredibly good people all around us each day that want peace, safety and to help make the world a better place. I have found great satisfaction serving in the community by being involved in helping the elderly, youth and neighbors through activities organized by my church. We recently spent an entire Sunday cleaning up big trees that had been blown down in a major wind storm that hit our city. While we would have normally been attending our Sunday worship, our inspired priesthood church leaders called us all into action to help the community. Thousands of volunteers spent many hours cutting, lifting and hauling broken trees away. For about 20 years, I have volunteered between 10 and 20 hours a week to serve people through my church in different ways. I have received so much in return for my little amount of service.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

John R. Harding
The Word of Wisdom is wonderful proof and evidence that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's true church on the earth. This revelation revealing the Word of Wisdom came long before medical science found the health dangers tobacco and other harmful drugs and substances contain. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

John R. Harding
Definitely not. But it is understandable that this impression could come about because Mormons and other great people who really study the life of Joseph Smith recognize his incredible character and competence in leading and following God. Mormons have a great love and respect for the prophet Joseph Smith, but do not worship him. All that Joseph Smith ever said or did in his prophetic calling directed people to worship God. I am so thankful for Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
