Hi I'm Sara

I'm a teacher. I'm a geek. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a person of many words. I love language, but that tends to make me ramble (and it tends to make these two paragraph blurbs very difficult for me). So since I have to describe myself in a few short words, I would say that I am adventuresome, brutally honest, silly, stubborn, open, and happy. I love to travel the world to remind myself how much I don't know and how much is out there for me to learn. I'm a preschool teacher, and I get to spend my days teaching, learning and playing. In my down time, I love to forget all my troubles by escaping into the fantastical worlds of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, and by reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's masterful Sherlock Holmes books, and other such things :) Currently I am serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission for 18 months.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because that is the path Jesus wants for me to take. Believe me when I say that it was not always the path I wanted for myself, but my conviction that this is the place to find God is simply undeniable. I've been a few places, and I've seen a lot of things. I've had such beautiful and sacred experiences studying and opening my heart to many different ideas and religions: Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and so many Christian branches. I treasure the lessons learned and the people I've met. But there is something so unique, and something that I feel so deeply within my core and within my soul when I read the Book of Mormon and when partake of the Sacrament. Whether I'm in the heart of Utah, surrounded by hundreds of kindred spirits, or in a small apartment in North East China with only one or two people who share my faith, when I eat of the bread and drink of the water, I am home. So why am I a Mormon? Because it is due to this glad message that I know of Christ not only in my brain, but in my heart. Because when I was going through the lowest low of my life, and when I didn't know what to think or to believe, the Book of Mormon changed me and brought me back to life. Because I have felt Jesus in my life, at times so strongly it was almost as if I could physically feel his arms around me. I am a Mormon because, with all the energy of my soul, I believe it.

How I live my faith

One of the most wonderful things about our church is the sense of tight knit community we share. Because we function with a lay ministry, it brings people of all different climbs and backgrounds together and into the service of our Lord. Whether it be giving the equivalent of the sermon on Sunday, planning Monday night activities to promote building friendships (like what I did before leaving on my mission), serving as a teacher, or a leader, or just someone to make people feel welcome, it doesn't matter. We all work together. We serve together. We learn to love like Christ loves together, and we therefore become open to receiving and recognizing His hand in our lives.
