Hi I'm Joe

I am a great grandfather since I have 16 grandchildren who think I am great; I am a Crimson Tide fan, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I retired from Vulcan Materials in 2011 and am now on a service mission for the LDS Church in the Birmingham Employment Resource center with my wife, Rita. We are coordinators in the center and love to help persons find employment. We teach a Career Workshop once a month. My grandparents join the Mormon Church in south Alabama almost a hundred years ago. I have often help others with their car problems because I learned some mechanics from my dad. I like to travel and enjoyed doing this in my transportation management job I had with Vulcan. I have an adult son with Down Syndrome and like to kid around with him, and play basketball sometimes.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I had a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true and it serves as a second witness of Jesus Christ along with the Bible. It further confirms the truthfulness of the role of Joseph Smith as a prophet. That brings me to a second reason being that this church has living prophets that speak for God and give us guidance for our day and time.

How I live my faith

I do charity acts, one such was mentioned already- helping persons with car problems. When called upon I answer the call to serve as I am now doing on the mission in the employment center. I helped my brother's family when he passed away recently by taking care of selling his car for them and helping his son who has a disability. As a home teacher in the church I have on several occasions rake the yard, mowed it, painted the living room and done other things for an elderly widow. There have been a number of time that I have gone to south Alabama or northwest Florida to clean up after hurricanes with groups from the church.
