Hi I'm Vickie

I grew up in California. I am a 1st grade teacher. My family is everything to me. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a terrific husband, 3 great children and a son-in-law and the most wonderful grandson! I was born and raised in California. I moved to Utah to attend college. I got married and never left. My parents were both teachers and I followed in their footsteps- I am a 1st grade teacher. I love to read, play games and travel and if I am doing those things with my family, life is good!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the LDS church all of my life. I was raised going to all of my meetings, praying and reading the scriptures with my family. It wasn't until I was a young mother that I was converted to the gospel. I always believed it was true but it wasn't until I read the Book of Mormon on my own that I knew that everything I had ever been taught was true. The Holy Ghost bore witness to me that what I thought to be true really was. Recently my father passed away. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. He had been sick for a long time. I don't even know how many prayers our family offered in his behalf. Oh, how we wanted him to be healthy and strong and live. As I prayed to my Heavenly Father for understanding I was never promised that he would be healthy but I was promised that everything would be okay and I was given peace. As I watched my father's health decline I was always reminded that this life is temporary and that greater things await us. I know that my family can be together forever and that my Dad is in paradise, healthy and happy. I know that God lives and he is loving. He loves us. He listens to us when we pray and He answers. I know that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins. If we repent, we can be clean and can return to dwell with our Heavenly Father again. I know that families are forever I know that all of the hard work, sweat and tears are for something- we are working out our own salvation. I know that our Savior led the perfect life and when we follow His example we are happy. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. That ancient prophets kept a record of their people for us to read today. If we read it, it will teach us how to live and how to prepare for the Savior's coming. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. That through him truths were restored. And I know that we have a prophet on the earth today - Thomas S. Monson. And this is good news!!

How I live my faith

I am always looking for ways to serve. I think I was born to serve. Recently, I said good-bye to my son for 2 years. He is in Brazil on a mission. I decided that now would be a good time to volunteer at the Missionary Training Center. I feel so blessed to go there once a week and volunteer my time. I also volunteer at a local food bank. I have the privilege of watching over 4 women in my neighborhood. I visit with them in their homes at least once a month and then I look for other ways that I can help them out. This is called visiting teaching. Some other service opportunities I have had are: teaching children about the Savior, being a cub scout leader and teaching young women and organizing spiritual opportunities for them.
