Hi I'm Mark

I joined the church when I was 19 years old to discover the happiness I saw in LDS family's. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I work in the construction industry. I married my high school sweetheart when I was 19 years old and now 26 years later we have 4 beautiful children. We love the outdoors and love to spend time boating or camping. We have a jeep and love to spend time driving mountain trails or just driving around to yard sales on Saturdays. I also like to cycle. It is a good excuse to spend time with good people and enjoy the outdoors. I like to take my bike different places and ride in places I have never been before.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was 19 years old. Ironically I grew up in an area where there were many LDS people but never really fit in with them. I attended many other churches as a child and feel I have had a relationship with my savior from a young age learning to pray for comfort and happiness. Finally after growing up in a family of divorce and other trials and moving to an area with fewer LDS people I became attracted to The happiness I felt when spending time with LDS families. There was a feeling of happiness, joy and truth that I wanted. I found people who worked hard and served other people who invited me into their activities and shared it with me. I was dating a "Mormon girl" at he time but her family was not very active in church. My employer was however and at work on Monday's would ask me why I wasn't at church on Sunday. I remember I would tell him "I don't go to your church". He would say " your girlfriend does". So, I would reply thinking my relationship with her was probably going to be temporary anyway. As time passed my love for the girl grew and I found a need to search out the "happiness" I could sense in my boss and many of the other people I met in the construction industry we worked in. Soon I agreed to take the lessons from the missionaries. I remember going to the 1st lesson with memories of the anti-Mormon things I had heard throughout my life thinking in my head " this Mormon stuff feels pretty good but they are going to have a hard time convincing me that Joseph Smith was a prophet". I sat through the first lesson and was shown the movie The First Vision. The story of how Joseph Smith saw our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ and was told to join no church that existed at that time but to wait for the true church to be revealed. At that moment I gained a belief with strong conviction that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that conviction has only grown over the past 26 years and has never waivered or been contradicted.

How I live my faith

I have had many different callings in the church from being a clerk to leading the young mens program but mostly find myself in teaching the youth or the elders. I love to teach because it gives me opportunities to study and ponder and learn principals and gain perspectives that help me have happiness in my day to day life. I have enjoyed watching my children progress in their lives by serving others and by taking leadership roles with their peers and taking their duties seriously.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We do not worship Joseph Smith. I have a love and admiration for Joseph Smith because I know the sacrifices he made for people. I have a similar love and respect for other prophets like Peter, James, and John. I do worship my Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ and I listen to the council given by our current prophet President Thomas S Monson. Show more Show less
