Hi I'm Kim

I am the mother of 3 children. I teach disabled adults and I am a Mormon.

About Me

My husband of almost 29 years and I have 2 adult children and one senior in high school who will be going off to college next year. Empty nester here I come! I have always had some kind of job- usually at night- so I could be with the kids during the day and then my husband would come home at night and take over. Those were tough years. When our third child got into first grade I decided I wanted to become a teacher and went back to school at night to get my teaching credential. It took 7 long, hard years in addition to teaching full-time and my responsibilities at home. I always thought I wanted to teach 1st grade, but as I substituted in various classes, I accidentally (though I believe there are no accidents) taught in special education classes. I absolutely loved these amazing students and knew I wanted to become a special education teacher. I currently teach adult who are disabled and I love my job (usually!).

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up going to the Presbyterian church with my mom but I also had some very good friends who were very religious and I would go to their churches with them. One of my friend's religion taught that baptism was necessary in order to be saved, but my other friend's church taught that it wasn't necessary. So, being very confused, I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't go to hell if I got hit by a car, so I was planning to be baptized in either church just to make sure all my bases were covered. A little while later I met a young man who introduced me to the church and I can the remember the instant I felt a reassurance that everything he had told me about the church was true. It all made such perfect sense to me and I knew the doctrines that I was taught were the characteristics of the church of Jesus Christ that I had been searching for.

How I live my faith

For me, like so many others, my faith is not just a Sunday activity. Its who I am and I strive to try to become a better person by following God's commandments and by listening to the Holy Ghost for guidance and direction. In church I have taught children, young women, teenagers and adult women. All these opportunities I have had to teach all these very different groups of individuals have helped me realize how much I need our Heavenly Father's direction so I can know what to say and how to present the lessons I am given. I have definitely done things I never thought I was able to do and have grown so much with all these opportunities to serve.
