Hi I'm Ray

I have been a mormon since 1976

About Me

My hobbies are family, gardening and weightlifting.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young father I became aware of the importance of finding a purpose in life. I only had a child like understanding of God and his existance, but I found myself desiring where he was and which church was true. I am no different than anyone else who wants to find the same truth. Because I was taught prayer by my grandmother, I believe that through this key I was able to access God in a more real sense than I could possibly imagine, and instead of my normal giving of thanks and love towards God and with my new found desire, I asked the queston "Where are you?" I began to ask other people about God but did not feel inspired by anything anyone said. I felt I was being lead to join a church but which church I did not know until one day two young men turned up at my door, I was busy and made an appointment for them to come back. Suddenly the reality hit me and I became afraid, so purposely went to visit family members so I was not at home for the appointment. That evening as I returned home I distinctly heard in my mind these words "You asked and when I came you were not here. I determined then that if they would come back I would be there. Those very same missionaries, one evening, felt the inspiration from on high, to again visit my house. In truth, I accepted that gospel that very night but I still did not know of the divinity of the church I only felt a comfortable feeling to look no further. I accepted to receive the lessons that were offered me and over a period of weeks I gained enough knowledge to pray and ask for myself if the Book of Mormon was true. The feeling that came to my heart at that point was so powerful that I believed with all of my heart that God had answered my prayers and that what I was reading was the word of God. I accepted to be baptised and in 36 years, amidst all my weakness, the one stable thing is the feeling that I had that day when I prayed and this has kept me on the path ever since, and I pray it always will.

How I live my faith

I am currently serviing in the Sunday school program and my responsibility is to teach other Sunday School leaders their duties and to be a resource. I travel to different areas in Victoria when required. This gives me the opportunity to improve my teaching skillls as well as learn the gospel. I also visit families locally including the elderly and single parents to ensure their well being and to help them in any way I can
