Hi I'm John

I grew up in Pennsylvania, I used to teach high school, I survived a bad accident, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was a convert to the church at age 28. I was born in Bedford county Pennsylvania. I graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture Education. Later I graduated from West Virginia University with a Masters in Agriculture. Professionally I spent time teaching high school science and agriculture and spent time teaching biology and anatomy at Allegheny College of Maryland. My last teaching assignment was teaching 9th grade physical science in the Philidelphia School District. My wife was a life-long Mormon and I had a son who went on to serve a two year mission for the church in California.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was 28 years old. I was actually thinking about which church IS right and at this age I met several people who were Mormons. Soon after I began taking discussions from the missionaries. After hearing each of the discussions, the missionaries asked if I believed that Joseph Smith was a prophet and if I felt that he really saw what he saw. I could not deny that I felt it was true. Soon after I made the decision to be baptized. My wife and I were then married in a chapel for time. Two years later we went to the Washington D.C. temple to be sealed for time and all eternity. I have a testimony that by living the principles taught from the Bible and the Book of Mormon, we can come closer to our Heavenly Father. Through these resources that have been given us, we can truly come to know our Savior, Jesus Christ, and that He fulfilled the atonement so that we can overcome the effects of sin. Through listening to our prophet, we can receive revelation to overcome the challenges we face in this day. I am always reminded what President Hinckley said regarding the blessings that come from attending our meetinghouses and our temples around the world.

How I live my faith

My current calling in the church is a Branch Clerk. As a clerk I work on the financial and membership records in our local unit. I strive to attend my church meetings each week and I try to attend the temple as often as I can. Currently I am a member of the local Rotary club, which is an international service oriented club. I also volunteer at the our local geneology/family history center at our church in Bedford. I also work on Public Relations between the church and the community in our area.
