Hi I'm Janessa

I like to spend time in the mountains, I really like to eat, I can ride a unicycle and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is so wonderful! I have the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ all day, every day and help other people to come unto Christ. It's wonderful to watch people change their lives and find true happiness. Apart from being a missionary, I really love to spend time outdoors--especially in the mountains. I also love cats, playing baseball, hanging out with my family, and being happy.

Why I am a Mormon

Being an active part of my church has changed my life for the better in just about every way possible. It has changed the way I view the world, the way I view myself and my family, and how I deal with others. I know that every person who lives on the Earth right now and who ever has lived on the Earth is a spirit son or daughter of God and that He loves them very much. Because of this essential knowledge, I become a kinder, more compassionate person. I try to imagine how much God loves each of His children and I try to emulate that love in all my interactions. As I work towards this goal, I notice that my relationships with friends and family become more meaningful and fruitful. The Gospel has brought an immeasurable amount of peace to my life because I know who I am, where I came from, why I'm here, and what will happen after I die. In a world with so many conflicts and so much confusion, I am very glad to have a strong sense of direction and purpose to my life.

How I live my faith

I was recently given the opportunity to become a teacher for the children at church. I teach seven 6-7 year old children. They are a handful, but it's a lot of fun to sing, play, and learn with them. Outside of church, I'm a part of a community service group. We have wonderful opportunities to help with various projects in our neighborhood. Some of my favorite service projects have been helping maintain the cemetery and some city parks, stocking shelves at a charity storehouse, participating in a yard sale for charity, and watching children while their parents attended parent teacher conferences at the local elementary school. We have a lot of fun and I am thankful for all the opportunities I have to serve!

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Many people view the Word of Wisdom as rules or restrictions. However, I think the Word of Wisdom provides us with more blessings than it does restrictions. Because I have committed to live the Word of Wisdom, I don't have to worry or fret about fighting addictions in the future. Addictions can cause such heartache to individuals, families, and communities. I also receive the blessing of a healthy body and mind. I know that as I follow the Word of Wisdom, God blesses me and helps me to reach my full potential. Show more Show less
