Hi I'm Jonathan Lightheart

I am from Medford Oregon. I am from a family of eight. I am serving a full time mission in Mexico. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My favorite thing to do is anything with sports. I am a big fan of the Oregon ducks and love watching them play football. I play basketball and do a lot of running. I also love reading. I will read any type of book. I also spend a lot of time with music. I play the saxophone and piano and I also am part of a choir. There always seems to be music in my home. I try to spend most of my time with my family. We do all kinds of crazy things. I am pretty sure we are one of the craziest families out there but I love it that way. I just graduated from high school and will attend Brigham Young University after I serve my mission in Mexico. In colllege I hope to study to go on to medical school and become a doctor. My father is a cardiologist and I hope to follow in his footsteps and become a doctor. Another reason I want to become a doctor is because I love helping people. I always try to put a smile on someone's face and make a difference in their lives. This is another reason I am going on a mission, so I can change someone's life and bring them to the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

My father and mother were both members so I was born into the church. However I still had to convert myself through the gospel. It was not an immediate happening but a long process. I have been learning about the gospel since I was a kid and have slowly gained a testimony of the gospel. I still remember several spiritual experiences that made it known to me that the gospel was true. The first experience is about our prophet Joseph Smith. One day for an activity with our youth we watched a video that told his life story. As we watched the video, the Spirit came to me and from that point I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Another experience I had, told me that the Book of Mormon was true. As I was sharing my testimony of the book to a friend, Istarted to tell him that I know the book is the most true book we have. As I said it, the Spirit came to me and told me what I was saying was true. Anytime I share my testimony of the Book of Mormon I make sure to say that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the book is true. My most recent experience showed to me the power of god. This week my father asked me to give him a blessing. As I blessed him the Spirit told me to tell him that he will be able to bring someone to the gospel of Christ and baptize them himself. Through all of the spiritual experiences as well as many others throughout my life I have come to know that the gospel is true.

How I live my faith

I try to do as much as I can in my church. Here in Medford my church gives me the wonderful oppurtunity to serve on the church pear farm. Every year i have the oppurtunity to put in 12 hours of service picking pears. These pears go all around the world to feed those in need. Another oppurtunity I have is to go teach one of the other members of our ward. He is an older gentleman who lives with his wife in a retirement home. It is always a great experience to go to his house and teach him a lesson. Though I am sure that he has taught me as much as I have taught him. It is so great to be able to shake his hand every Sunday and see the smile on his face. Currently I am serving as a missionary of our church. It is a wonderful experience. It has surely been spiritiually enriching. It has been great to get to know the wonderful people of Mexico. It is amazing to see people change their lives and come closer to our savior.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Jonathan Lightheart
Yes! The bible is an amazing book that will help anyone who reads it come closer unto Christ. It contains the stories of many prophets. Such as when Moses parted the Red Sea, Enoch and his people lifted up into the heavens, Elijah proving to the people that Christ is our savior. And it contains the work of our Savior. It teaches us of the miracles he did the parables he taught and that he gave his life for us. It was written by inspired men for our benefit . However, we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God. And only when used with the bible can we find the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
