Hi I'm Whitney

I'm a student. I'm a journalist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a journalist that believes everyone has a story to tell, whether they realize it yet or not. I'm working toward my degree in mass communication with a minor in arts and technology. I love photography, spending time with my family and meeting new people. I am currently serving an 18 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rochester, New York.

Why I am a Mormon

I may have grown up going to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with my family, but that's not why I'm a Mormon. My parents taught me from a very young age what values this church professes, but they made it clear it was up to me to choose to live it. I didn't have a "lightning bolt" moment where I suddenly knew this gospel was true. Instead, I chose to live its teachings and gained my testimony a day at a time. It has brought me so much joy and happiness. This gospel blesses my life more than I can explain. I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it multiple times and have received the same answer over and over again that it's all true. Because I know the Book of Mormon is true, I also know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he restored Christ's true church to the earth. I know without a doubt that God speaks to us today through a living prophet, and that all of these things are proof of God's love for us. Most importantly, I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, He lives and thanks to Him I will be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I may not be perfect, by I strive every day to live my faith by keeping the commandments. By praying, reading my scriptures and being kind to others, I feel my faith increase as I grow closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ. It's not always easy, but I find as I do so that I feel true joy and happiness. Right now I'm living my faith by serving in the New York Rochester Mission. It's truly a dream come true for me to be able to verbally testify of Christ all day, every day. But more than saying my testimony, I try to live it. Even something as small as a smile can help others feel Christ's love. Regardless of one's religion, EVERYONE can come closer to Christ in some way, and I consider it a great honor to serve as His representative to help others strengthen their faith in Him.
