Hi I'm Claudia

I was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico but grew up in Washington. My entire life has been blessed because I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I are the parents of seven children who are all grown and married. We have 27 wonderful grandchildren who bring much joy to our lives. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been a great strength, guide, and blessing in our lives. Therefore, we want to share it with others and are currently preparing to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a home where the gospel was a part of family life. As a child, I accepted my parents beliefs as being correct. However, when I became a teen-ager I decided I needed to find out for myself whether they knew what they were talking about, whether the gospel was true, whether the prophet Joseph Smith did indeed see God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and whether Joseph was the instrument through which they restored the true gospel to the earth. If Joseph Smith was truly a prophet, then the Book of Mormon must also be true and I should live my life in accordance with gospel teachings. After reading the Book of Mormon and praying sincerely, I knew for myself that God does live, that His Son, Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer and that by obeying the commandments, my life would be blessed and that eventually I could return to live with God again. Life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has blessed my life and my family members lives. It has kept us close. It has helped us to overcome the challenges of life which at times have been many and difficult. Looking back over my life, I realize that it has made me who and what I am and increased my desire to be the kind of person, my Father in Heaven wants me to be.

How I live my faith

My husband and I are currently serving in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple a few days each week. This service teaches us more about our Savior and His great love for each of us. It has strengthened our testimonies and increased our gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. We also attend church every Sunday to partake of the Sacrament and renew our baptismal covenants. We study the scriptures which brings us peace and helps us find answers to challenges in our lives. We have individual and family prayer every day and find inspiration and guidance as we ask for the Lord's help. We also serve as we visit members in our church family and discuss the gospel with them. Living this way reminds us that we are children of a loving Heavenly Father and helps us try harder to draw closer to Him and to obey His commandments. The gospel reminds us that each person on the earth is one of our Heavenly Father's children, that we are all brothers and sisters and should treat each other with love, respect, and compassion. As we try to become more Christlike, we find joy in life's journey.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Earth life is a schooling period where we can learn and grow and progress in ways we could not without a physical body. Here we can experience many things that help us to understand our Heavenly Father better. As we make choices and experience the consequences of those choices, we can learn that when we choose to follow Jesus we are happier and more fulfilled and feel closer to our Heavenly Father. As we raise a family, we gain appreciation for our Heavenly Father and how He must feel when we make good choices and the sorrow that He and the Savior feel when we make choices that take us further away from them. We can learn more about their great love for us as we serve and love our families. As we study the scriptures, pray, and obey God's commandments, our faith is strengthened and our desire to live with God and Christ again encourages us continue in well doing. In the scriptures it says: "This life is the time to prepare to meet God" (Alma 5:15). God has provided His children with the wonderful opportunity to come to earth, grow, learn, prove that we will choose to follow Him and earn the right to live with Him eternally. Show more Show less
