Hi I'm Shayla

I grew up in Arizona/Utah. I am going to major in Vocal Performance at Southern Utah University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the 4th daughter in a family of 5 girls and 1 boy and I grew up surrounded by love and faith. One of the biggest challenges I had growing up was the fact that my family moved around a lot. I changed schools about every 2 years. However, this challenge became an opportunity as I learned how to make friends and met a variety of people. My family finally settled in Utah my sophomore year of high school where I finished school and eventually attended college and received my associates degree. I am now preparing to serve a mission for the LDS church in Hawaii, Honolulu to teach others about the church and gospel that has blessed my life so much.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my whole life, yet I don't recall ever truly doubting of it's truthfulness. This gospel brings me joy and happiness. I am not perfect and there are many times when I stray or mess up, but I know that living the gospel and obeying the commandments and the words of the prophets is a far easier and a more restful way of living. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him when he was a boy and through him, restored their church on the earth once more. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has the authority given from God that existed back when Christ was on the earth. I know that we have a living prophet on earth today who leads and guides us and who speaks the words of God. I have read the Book of Mormon and have received an answer from God that it is true and that it contains His words. I have felt its power as I read it and have witnessed the change in my life for the better because of it. I know that I am a child of God and that he loves me and, because of the atonement, knows exactly what I am going through and the trials that I face, more than anybody else does. I know that He loves each and every one of His children and wants so much for us all to come unto Him and to follow in His footsteps. I testify of these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I have had many wonderful opportunities to participate in my community and ward over the years. As a teenager, I not only got involved in many school activities such as choir, basketball, school committees and clubs, but I also had the privilege of becoming a leader as a member of the presidency of the youth group in my church ward. Through that, I learned the importance of serving and doing. I have continued to serve as a visiting teacher and a member of other committees throughout the church. I have learned through these experiences that it is important to not only learn and believe, but to serve and help those around me grow and that by doing this, my faith grows as well.
