Hi I'm Toni

I grew up in a small farming town in Washington. I left sports broadcasting to become a mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm one of the lucky ones because I found my dream job, experienced it, and got to leave it for another dream job. I grew up in a sports loving family and spent all my free time playing and watching sports. When I got to BYU I soon found an outlet for that passion at BYUTV where I got a job working in the live sports truck and then sideline reporting. After graduation I helped create the sports magazine show True Blue and eventually became the host. TV Reporters almost always point to one thing as being the ultimate perk of the job--and that is that every day brings a new challenge and a new story. I got to interview a hugely diverse group of people, all with a unique story, and I had the great opportunity to craft that story visually (with the help of our videographers and editors). Telling stories that way is something I will always love, be they happy, exciting, heartbreaking, frustrating, controversial, or inspirational. Since my time at True Blue I spent a season working for the NBA's Golden State Warriors in PR-- another dream job! When it came time to start a family I had no hesitation. We had struggles as many do these days but were blessed with rosy cheeked baby girl. I've been lucky to have such an exciting career in sports and I know it will always be a passion. But motherhood has brought me joy and fulfillment that I had not previously known. In parenting as in reporting, I've found each day brings exciting and challenging variety!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for so many reasons. For the peace it brings my soul. For the direction it gives me personally. For the unity in family and support of community. I'm a Mormon because I know it's true. I have asked and I've received that answer for myself. I'm a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I've always tried to live my faith through example. I grew up in a small town with a very small Mormon population and I always stuck out. When at times it was difficult to 'fit in', I soon found that I loved not having to explain to everyone why I wasn't going to a party or why I had to get up at 6 am to go to seminary! My friends all knew and had certain expectations of me. As an adult it can be difficult to get in to conversations about the church as it is such a heated topic. I find that the best way to be an example and missionary comes from a theme my Stake had growing up. JTAYCL which means Just Talk About Your Church Life. If someone asks what you did this weekend don't tell them you went to a movie but avoid telling them about the service project you went to to help out the Young Men and Young Women. It's a great conversation starter and lets you share your beliefs without being pushy.
