Hi I'm Joel Ty Wallis

I am a convert of 5 years and I served a full-time mission in Kyiv, Ukraine. I like to make friends and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Like I said my name is Joel. I was born in Utah but was raised in Arizona from the time I was a baby. I grew up in a single-parent home. My mother is an amazing example of hard work. I met my dad at the age of 15 and shortly afterward I moved to live with him. I have 7 sisters and 5 brothers, it's a his-hers-hers story. I grew up without any religious background but went to a few christian churches because of friends invitations but I never got too involved. I just finished my mission in Kyiv, Ukriane. I'm single. I love learning, but I like it even more when it's fun. I enjoy spending time with friends and family. Oh yeah I love eating delicous foods.

Why I am a Mormon

The summer I turned 16 my started to live on my own while my mother lived in another city. One day the Mormon missionaries showed up at my house thanks to my friends mom. Unfortunately I only listened for a while before I started to come up with excuses to not meet with them. After a few months I decided to live with my dad and his new wife, both members. After a month or so I started to meet with a new set of missionaries and listen to what they had to say. After a few weeks and declining the invitation to be baptized I was in class and I remember feeling the Holy Ghost, the Spirit, for the first time. It was almost like chills but it was a comforting feeling, and then my thoughts turned to the message that the missionaries had been sharing with me. That is initially why I joined the church but as I look back on being a member for 5 years I realize there were many other reasons. The biggest being the fact that God, our Heavenly Father, loves me. It took me a long time to realize that, even after baptism. I also attritube it to the example of my friends and family members. Last but not least was the prayers of my family members. I am undescribably, literally I don't know how to describe how thankful I am that God loved me enough to send the missionaries to me and then give me a second chance. Being a member hasn't been a trip on Cloud 9 every day, but I have learned alot and grown so much closer to my Savior. Simply I am a Mormon because I know that God lives, His Son, Jesus Christ, is our Savior and the Author of this church. This is not another church, it is His church. Led and directed by Him through a living prophet and 12 apostles. I know that Joseph Smith did see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is evidence of that. I am a Mormon because the church is true.

How I live my faith

The most recent way I've been living my faith has been by serving a full-time mission in Ukriane. Every day I woke up and talked to people about the restored church. It was pretty cool. I live my faith day by day. There really isn't a secret formula. I try to follow our Savior Jesus Christ, I'm slowly realizing the fact that I'm not perfect and perfection is an eternal principle. I guess I live my faith by 'walking in the dark' so to speak. I don't always know what I'm going to do or how I'm going to do it but I trust that Lord is going to guide me as I try to do my best. I'd be a liar if I said my faith was perfect but I know that the Lord loves me and as long as I try to follow Him He will be with me.
