Hi I'm Ben Toney

I am from Utah, lived in Brazil, now I am married, just finished grad school and have two children, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am father of two children. I am a MBA student. When I get free time, I like to spend time with my wife and children. We like to go for walks, go to parks, zoos, and enjoy nature. We also enjoy going on day trips or taking vacations to see family. I enjoy physical fitness such as P90x, running and soccer. I love following sports on ESPN such as college football, and professional basketball. I've started to follow politics the last few years. When I can, I enjoy attending sporting events or performing arts. I also enjoy music and like to sing, listen to music, sing in choirs and play the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a young man, I had to know for myself if the Mormon church that I had been raised in was true. I was at the point where I need to know for myself and no longer rely on what my parents taught me. At that point, I really sought an answer through prayer and a serious study of the scriptures. I was hoping to get an immediate answer that the church I already was in is the true church. However, it didn't come all at once. It took me several days, but felt as I was praying that I already knew it was true. I realized that I did in fact know it was true. I then prayed for more surety. This added surety has come to me over time as I have sought to be a good person, do what I know is right and serve others. One thing that I love about my church is that we are taught that if we live good lives and are married in a sacred place called a Temple, we can be together with our families forever. This has become especially important to me as I have become a husband and father. My wife and children mean so much to me. I also love my parents, siblings and grandparents. A couple of years ago, my grandmother died. I was close to her because I had always grown up a short drive away from her. However, when she passed away, I was at peace because I knew that I would see her again and that she would still be my grandma when I got to heaven. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are true books of scripture. I know that because I have read them both more than once and have prayed to get an answer. All that means the world to me. It means that I know where to go for the most important answers in life. Family is the most important thing on Earth because we can be with them forever.

How I live my faith

I enjoy participating in community service events such as events put on by the Boy Scouts of America, school service programs, etc. I also enjoy contributing to keeping my local church looking nice by cleaning it a few times a year on the inside and helping care for the grounds once per year. Each Sunday, I teach the 11 year-old class about the scriptures. I enjoy hearing about their lives in 6th grade and with their families at the start of each class and then teaching them a lesson. I used to teach the 4 year-old class. Another thing that I enjoy doing each Christmas season is visiting neighbors and singing Christmas Carols at their doorstep. Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. When I was in High School, I enjoyed going with my friends to the local hospital and singing Hymns or songs of worship or patriotism such as Amazing Grace, Be Still My Soul, My Country 'Tis of Thee to the residents.
