Hi I'm Luis

I love my Hispanic culture. I enjoy playing basketball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family is my greatest inspiration! I believe that true success in life can only be achieved with God's help. Real happiness is what I feel as I live the gospel of Jesus Christ. I became a Mormon at the age of 19 (with much opposition from my family) and at 21 served an extended full-time mission in Los Angeles, California (with the full support of my family). I married the most beautiful woman in the world a year later in the Houston, Texas Temple. Currently I'm finishing up my bachelors degree at BYU-Idaho and applying to law school. I'm interested in politics, in helping those that can't help themselves, in making friends and in living a happy and healthy lifestyle!

Why I am a Mormon

After the deaths of my father and three brothers, I became greatly interested as a boy in "finding God" as a means of finding my lost loved ones. As the years passed I became disillusioned with the Catholic church due to their inability to answer my simple questions. Once I learned to drive at 14 yrs old, I began visiting different churches in my city. They all followed the same pattern: 1) I was excited and I enjoyed them at first 2) No real answers were given to my questions and 3) I left in search for my answers. This occurred for years; I began to think that maybe God didn't exists and that all the Bible stories, especially the Jesus stories were some invention. That changed, nevertheless when I asked my best friend if I could go to his church ( I never knew he was Mormon). That day changed my life forever. A young man with a name tag when up to the podium and sang a song " I need thee every hour". That song penetrated my hardened heart and for the first time in my life, I felt close to my lost loved ones. The Sunday school classes taught of this Joseph Smith person and I agreed with everything they were saying (it just made sense to me). Later that week two sister missionaries came to my home and taught me all about the Restoration of God's true Church. The told me not to believe them, but to pray and ask God. I did that night and my prayer was answered immediately. I felt as if someone was hugging me (later I learned it was the Holy Ghost). After reading the entire Book of Mormon in less than a week, I knew it was true. I joined the Church because it answered all my questions and more (I came to know that one day I'd see my deceased family members). It brought peace to my life. It allowed me to know that God does exist, that He knows me (and loves me) and that he has a plan for me in this life. And this is why I'm a Mormon!

How I live my faith

At present, I'm a full time student and attend a local Spanish congregation. As a student, I volunteer to help students all over the world improve their English, so that they can achieve their educational goals. I also assist a local professor in all of his classes and his students. Also, I help organize service activities to help those in need and love going out with the missionaries on their teaching visits.
