Hi I'm Michael

I was born in Logan, Utah. I live in Rochseter, NY, and I'm a husband, a father, and a scientist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and I have 4 children. I am a postdoctoral fellow with a PhD in Biochemistry. I enjoy running, cycling, basketball, and golf. I speak Spanish and love meeting and getting to know people from all over the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I believe that it is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I love that the church teaches us that we are all brothers and sisters, children of a loving Heavenly Father, that our purpose in life is to return to live with Him, and that family bonds are not just for this life, but for eternity. I love associating with other members of the church. We aren't perfect, but we share the common goal of loving and serving others. I have met and made friends with so many diverse people through my membership in the church, and feel that I am a much better person because of this. I know that God loves us and watches out for us, and that Jesus Christ is His Son. I know that through our Savior, Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins, because I have felt that forgiveness.

How I live my faith

My faith has given me many opportunities to serve, both in the community and in the church. For three years, I was in charge of the men's group at our church. I got to help with community events to benefit those less fortunate than me, and I had an active role in helping to visit and care for the poor and needy. My wife and I now serve by teaching a class for two and three year old children at church. It is a lot of fun! I believe that Jesus Christ gave us the perfect example and I try to follow him by being kind and honest, and by loving and serving those around me. Obviously I fall infinitely short, but I do my best.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Michael
Everybody is welcome to attend church with us! We love to share what we believe with everyone. The first meeting is called Sacrament Meeting, lasts 70 minutes, and is where we participate in taking the sacrament (communion or the Lord's Supper). Sermons are given by members of the congregation. After Sacrament meeting, for those over 12, there are Sunday school classes, followed by meetings for specifically for young men age 12-18, for men over 18, for young women age 12-18, and for women over 18. Anybody is welcome and encouraged to stay for these meetings as well. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Michael
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is our perfect example. Only through him can we be forgiven of our sins and be saved. He died for us and was resurrected after three days in the tomb, and through him we will live again after we die. Show more Show less
