Hi I'm Chris

I'm Chris, I'm 20 years old, I was born in Benoni South Africa, I'm British, I live in the UK and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello!! My name is Chris, I'm 20 years old and I was born in Benoni South Africa. I'm the 2nd youngest of 8 children. I've got 4 brothers & 3 sisters (big, I know!). I lived in SA up to the age of 3 and then moved to both Botswana and Namibia until my family moved back to the UK. A few years after my mother and father got married in Southend-on-Sea, they moved to South Africa & that at point they had 3 children. The others including myself were all born in SA . I attended most of my schooling in the UK and so far my biggest academic achievement is a National Diploma in Public Service. It involved a lot, from government policies & criminology too land & navigation & outdoor pursuits. I'm planning after I return home from my 24 month Missionary service to go to university at BYU-Idaho in the US. Maybe I'll further Public Services or one of the curriculum's that I studied. I absolutely love sports and running! I've competed in a lot cross country events. I love all types of sports such as football [soccer for you Americans], basketball, badminton & golf. I enjoy the outdoors, camping, hiking & just playing action man really. When I was 17, I joined the British Territorial Army, a reservist in the British Army. I'd go away on weekend & 5 days at a time to train with regulars. It was so fun & definitely an experience! I've worked in a number of jobs such as warehouse, call centres & customer service contact centres. That's me....very simple!

Why I am a Mormon

The question "why are you a Mormon?" is what I get asked the most. Why did I chose to live a life as a Mormon?... I was born into the church but I stopped going when I was 13 for 2 years because I simply didn't understand what it was all about. When I was 15 years of age, I found it hard making friends & I noticed that for those 2 years of forgetting about church & not being bothered with it, I was always loved & there was always someone caring for me, seeing how I was doing, inviting me to come out to church on Sunday & other church activities. I then started going to church & studying the values & standards of being a Mormon such as The Word of Wisdom, Law of Chastity, the family unit &I wanted all of that, all of it! Living those standards I was seeing how much it was blessing me with happiness, confidence, security & love. I was able to tackle a few problems very well & I was able to see how much I was growing & moving forward, comparing myself with those who were not living such standards. I then started reading my scriptures, reading the Book of Mormon, going to church regularly on Sunday's & praying regularly to my Heavenly Father. I saw & felt the power of the Atonement & I knew the Atonement was true, I knew that The book of Mormon was true, I knew that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was true and I knew that the true Church of Jesus Christ was once again restored to the earth. I know this all to be true!

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many ways & I strive to live it that it may not just bless me with happiness, confidence & security but that it may also bless those around me. I believe it's so important to fellowship those around you, for me not just in my church ward but also in my community. I strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ by finding those in my ward & community to serve & help them with whatever they need help with. Home Teaching is something all Mormons strive to do as much as possible. I love carrying out my Home Teaching assignments & seeing the families that I'm assigned to fellowship & serve. Its brings joy having this calling to serve, care & to share messages to those families about Jesus Christ. Every week, there are many activities that are organised to build unity & we hold these activities not just church members, but also non-members & they are so enjoyable! I've been too so many & they really do vary, from Nerf gun fights & a BBQ too casual basketball match & long walks. Everyday I live my faith because it brings such joy, confidence, security & blessings into my life. People do notice the Mormon standards that I live by & when they ask me about them & why I live by them, I share with them the message of Jesus Christ & what blessings his Gospel brings.
