Hi I'm Dan Fisher

I live in Portland, Oregon. I'm a father, a husband, and a banker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Dan. I'm a commercial banker and a recent partial-hand amputee. I live in Portland, Oregon, USA with my amazing wife and our three beautiful children. I love working with my mind (which makes banking fun), and working with my hands (I love to create beautiful things with wood and metal). I recently had a serious accident and lost all of the fingers on my left hand. From this accident I have learned so many things. I have also felt the love of my Heavenly Father more deeply than ever before. Because of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ I know that this life is a test. my recent accident, and the loss of my fingers, is part of my test. But, with every trial we face here on earth can come even greater blessings if we chose to trust our Heavenly Father and ask for his help and guidance. I know He loves me and my family, and I know that he cares for me personally and wants me to be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been blessed to have the Gospel as part of my life since I was a child. As I grew up I saw the way those without the Gospel struggled with challenges and with the influences of the world. I knew that what I believed was special, and that being a part of the church was a great thing. But as I grew toward missionary age I really felt the need to study the gospel with greater intensity and seek my own confirmation of its truthfulness. I took to much study and prayer over the course of several months. As I studied, the logic of the Plan of Salvation and the need for the Book of Mormon and modern day prophets just resonated with my mind. I felt that everything just made sense, but I needed more of a confirmation. After reading the Book of Mormon I followed the admonition of the prophet Moroni and asked my Heavenly Father if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was His true church. Upon asking, the Holy Ghost quietly and peacefully confirmed in my heart what I had studied out in my mind. Since that time in my young adulthood I have had countless experiences which have further strengthened my personal testimony of the Gospel. But the simplest and most important aspect of my testimony, or why I am a Mormon, is that I know why I am here on earth. This gives me strength beyond my own ability to persevere through life's trials and remain apart from the ever increasing influence of the world. I have peace in my mind and joy in my heart every day because of my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I do my best to live my faith by following the example of Jesus. I try to be patient, courteous and kind. I feel good when I say a kind word to a stranger, or take the time to sit down with my children when they are upset, angry, or sad. I try to show kindness and affection to my sweet wife often. I try to acknowledge all of her hard work and tremendous contributions to our family and to our neighbors and others. I teach my children to love their mother, by example and teaching. I love to be an active participant in church meetings, and I try to fulfill my calling as an instructor to the best of my ability. I share my love for Jesus with others so they can also know why they are here on earth, and what great blessings their Heavenly Father has for them .

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Dan Fisher
The Holy Ghost can provide tremendous peace in times of suffering. A few short months ago I was involved in a serious accident with a power saw. I completely severed all of the fingers on my left hand. Within a few short minutes after the accident occurred, a feeling of complete calmness came over me. I recognized this feeling as something I had felt on previous occasions, while reading the scriptures, listening to the prophet and apostles, or giving a priesthood blessing. Although I was in tremendous physical pain, and I knew that my life would be forever changed by this accident, I was reminded by the Holy Ghost that this life is a test and that I should not get discouraged, but rather keep moving forward. Since my accident I have continued to receive comfort and guidance from the Holy Ghost every day. Perhaps most importantly, the Holy Ghost reminds me of how much my Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to be happy. Show more Show less
