Hi I'm Michelle

I'm from Beaverton, Oregon. I love nature, music, and art. I hope to illustrate children's books. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

My hobbies are drawing, painting, reading, music, and basketball. I absolutely love summertime, and find most my artistic inspiration from nature, or the people I interact with. I never really played sports growing up, but always had an interest in them, so with the encouragement of a good friend I took a basketball class in college, and loved it! Now I practice a little whenever I get the opportunity, and try to teach my younger brothers so they can play with me. I am the 6th of 13 children, which has been one of the greatest blessing of my life. I am now preparing to serve as a missionary in the Ukraine, Kyiv mission, for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I can't wait to be a missionary!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were already faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so as a child I never found it difficult to live the teachings of the gospel. As I grew older and I began to have questions, one thing in particular that I struggled with was consistently reading the scriptures. I would see my older sisters faithfully pull out their Books of Mormon, or Bible every night to read a chapter or so before going to bed. I was never really able to make it a habit until someone once told me "If you want a testimony of something, you have to live it." So I put it to the test. I began reading a chapter of the Book of Mormon every morning (I found I was too tired at night), before doing anything else including homework. It took me a while to make the habit, and especially as I've gone to college it hasn't always been easy, and I haven't always been perfect about it, but the result has been amazing. If there is one thing that I have a testimony of, it is that the Book of Mormon is true. It makes such a positive difference in each day that I read, and I can feel the loss in the days that I don't. As I've applied the lesson I've learned to other principles of the gospel, my confidence and testimony in each thing has grown; I feel in my heart that it is true. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday I teach 8 and 9 year old children about Jesus Christ, the scriptures, and the prophets. At first I struggled because I didn't know how to make the lessons interesting enough that the kids would want to listen. However, as I've prayed, studied, and done more preparation for each Sunday lesson, the Holy Ghost has been more present in the classroom and I have found effective ways to help the kids understand, while also having fun. This has been a great blessing.
