Hi I'm Ryan

I am a college student who enjoys running, music and computers. I love trying new things, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in California as the oldest of six siblings. I love the concept of the power of new ideas, and I love trying new things. Ever since I was a kid, it's been my dream to be an inventor, someone who has a part in pushing the boundaries of current technology. I'm a college student, studying computer science. When I'm not busy studying, I love running while listening to movie soundtracks, reading books that make me think and enjoying time with family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (a Mormon) for many reasons, but these two stand out: 1. I feel peace when I follow the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Abraham Lincoln once said: "When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad." The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, lead me to greater happiness and light when I follow them. 2. I know the Book of Mormon is a true record. God called a prophet, Joseph Smith, to assist in bringing the full gospel back to the earth since it had been gone for a time. Part of that involved Joseph Smith translating an ancient record of people who once lived in America, and who testified of Christ. I have read this record, The Book of Mormon, and I have felt a peace in my heart, declaring it's truth, that I cannot deny.

How I live my faith

One of the ways I live my faith is by doing my best to live up to a high moral standard including being honest, listening to good and wholesome music, watching movies that are clean and appropriate, keeping the Sabbath day holy, and using clean language. Oftentimes doing what is right brings about opposition which means standing up for what I believe even if I am the only one who believes that way. It is not always easy, but it is always worth it. There are so many people out there who need a friend. Everyone is struggling with something hard. It's sometimes hard to remember, but we are all family! I strive to befriend others, and though I am far from perfect, it gives me a thrill to brighten another's day. In the end, I would be nothing but a mess if it weren't for the strength and healing that comes from the Savior. Some days are hard, but digging deep inside by either praying or listening to a hymn or other christian song, I find that comfort and peace saying that things will be alright. I have also been strengthened especially at college to be able to complete work even though I might be running on 3 or 4 hours of sleep some nights. I just want to be clear that my life would crumble without the foundation of my faith.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Ryan
I grow closer to Heavenly Father when I pray honestly and sincerely. I notice that I have to be real with my Father. It is a challenge to do so, but when I speak with my Father in Heaven as if he were a real being (he is), I feel His presence. I know that He cares. One time, I was going through some hard times. I pleaded for help in my heart to my Father telling Him that I could not make it through on my own. I felt His comfort, and with His strength. It was as if He was saying: No, but you can make it through with me. I was able to hold on and make it through. Knowing your Father and having that relationship with Him is the greatest comfort and brings light into this dark world. Show more Show less
