Hi I'm Ryan G.

I grew up in the East Valley of Arizona making music and skating. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm 19 years old and embarking on a new journey- a full time mission. I will serve in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the French language for two years. At home I spend lots of my time writing, playing, and recording music. I attend ASU and will be continuing my education after my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up in the LDS church since I was 2 years old. I have had my ups and downs with following the religion but finally was able to gain a true testimony of my own. I know Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, I know Heavenly Father is real. I know Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God and that he sacrificed himself for us. I know the atonement is real and that after three days Christ loosed the bonds of death setting the standard for all mankind.

How I live my faith

I am currently a ward missionary and spend Tuesday nights going on splits with missionaries in my area. I try to find as many opportunities to serve as I can and will always lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Ryan G.
The dictionary.com definition for cult is "a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies." So in this way, Mormonism is a cult. It is a way of life for LDS members, and we abide by a particular system that has been taught to us by prophets through revelation from Jesus Christ. Mormonism has also been defined as an 'occult' as well, meaning "of or pertaining to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use or knowledge of secret or supernatural powers or agencies." This however is not true at all. The power the church has is called the Priesthood. It is given to worthy male members through the laying on of hands in a blessing by other Priesthood holders, with the authority of God as it is a piece of the power he holds. Show more Show less
