Hi I'm Lizzie

I play the harp and love to sing and dance. In a few years, I will be an Elementary School Teacher! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have 5 sisters and 1 brother. My little sister has Down syndrome, so I have a special place in my heart for people with special needs, and for those wonderful people who sacrifice so much to give them love and attention. As a child I loved dancing in the basement with my sisters wearing a puffy slip and my mom's old jewelry--perhaps this is what sparked my love for dancing. I danced ballet for 10 years, and now dance a little ballroom on the side. I am a college student at Brigham Young University studying Elementary Education, though currently I am taking a break from my studies to serve a full time mission for the Church in Vancouver, Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

People have asked me why I do what I do. Why I follow so may rules. Why I give so many things up for church. Well, simply stated: it makes me happy. I grew up in the church, so the whole "Mormon culture" was easy for me to accept because, well, in a sense, it was my culture. As I got older and began studying the scriptures more for myself, it came to the point where I didn't want to just go through the motions just because that is what I had always done. I wanted to really know that what I was doing was right and true. I prayed about the Book of Mormon, expecting to receive some great answer that it was true. I didn't. Instead, I just felt as I always had when reading the scriptures: peaceful and filled. That was my answer. I had always felt that the Book of Mormon is true, that the church is true, that the prophets are real. This knowledge makes following the guidance of the prophets, both ancient and modern, much easier. I am very far from perfect, but when I am doing all the things that I know to be good and right, I am closest to Christ. I am happy.

How I live my faith

I always try to follow the example of Christ by having love and charity toward all people, even when I don't agree with their choices and actions. Remembering the way that Heavenly Father views each of His children helps me to show this love. In my church I am serving a mission which allows me to share the message of Christ with people on a daily basis. This means moving away, putting off school and work, and giving all my time to bring others to Christ. It is an amazing opportunity though!
