Hi I'm Landon

I grew up in Boise, Idaho and I love to run track. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Boise, Idaho and have lived there most of my life. I just finished my third semester of college at Utah State University (this past summer, 2012), and I run track there. I run the 400m. Now, I'm going on a mission to Santiago Chile. I am so excited!!! Some of my hobbies are: running, family history, quoting movies, playing the piano, fishing, hiking, everything outdoors, and swimming. I am also interested in genetics and am planning on becoming a genetic research scientist.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for three reasons. One: Because I have prayed to God and He has witnessed to me through the Holy Ghost and through experiences that this is His church and that The Book of Mormon is in fact a true record of ancient peoples who were led by God. Two: Because I have tested the principles in this church and have found them all to be true. One such principle is that of families being together. I know that this is a spiritual principle because I have seen the consequences of broken families. Having seen such consequences, I know that God expects and needs parents to honor the vows that they have made to each other so that the children that come into this world can be raised in a unified loving and caring environment. Another prinicple that I have tested in this church is that of good works. The humanitarian services of this church are so incredible and are a testimony to me that this church doesn't exist to serve itself, but to serve others. Many other principles like these have held true when I have tested them. Three:This church has priesthood authority, which was restored by the direction of Jesus Christ unto Joseph Smith. Thus, it is Christ's church, and He directs it through living apostles and prophets on the earth today. I am a member of this church because God has made known unto me that it is true, because I have never found a principle in it that has turned me away from Christ, and because of the priesthood authority that this church holds.

How I live my faith

I believe in doing good to others and treating everyone with kindness. Christ said, "Ye shall know them by their fruits." (Matthew 7:16; see also in The Book of Mormon: 3 Nephi 14:16) If I model my life after the pattern of Christ's ministry, then I am becoming the person that I want to be. I love studying the scriptures. I love doing this by reading from the Bible and The Book of Mormon and finding the principles that both books teach. The footnotes in my scriptures show me so many connections between the Bible and The Book of Mormon. I also love reading Jesus the Christ by James E. Talmage, which goes into great detail about the life of Christ without making any assumptions; it is all based on the Four Gospels and Jewish culture and tradition at the time of Christ's life. I also believe in honoring the priesthood that I hold. By holding the priesthood, I have a duty to love everyone and serve whenever I can. This is something I have to constantly work on and improve, but I'm getting better. One specific way that I try to honor the priesthood is by serving faithfully in the church callings that I am given. I have been a family history consultant before and it was such a great experience to teach others about how to research their ancestors and why it is important. I've also had the chance to be and work with the Boy Scouts. Also, when I was in the youth programs in the church, I had many opportunties to do service for those who needed help.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Mormons absolutely believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It breaks my heart when people say that Mormons aren't Christians. We recognize Jesus Christ as our Saviour and know that through His Atonement, He is the only reason that we can repent and return to the presence of God. Jesus Christ is everything. Without Him, our existence would be useless, as we could never repent. We love Him dearly and strive to use His teachings and life as an example of how we should live ours. On January 1, 2000, The Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles wrote a great document that summarizes our love, and faith in Jesus Christ. It is called The Living Christ. I have memorized this document and it has been a powerful material for me to ponder and consider as I think about Jesus Christ and what He has done for me. Perhaps some people doubt that we are Christians because we don't use the cross as a symbol of our faith. This is because the symbol of our faith is the lives that we live and the service that we render to all. We focus on Christ's life and resurrection rather than His death. Show more Show less
