Hi I'm Rob Riedler

I went to school at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I'm a missionary in the England London Mission.

About Me

I grew up in the church, was baptized at 8, but truly became converted in my teens when I read the Book of Mormon. I moved around a lot while growing up. I went to 3 different high schools in Hoover, Alabama; King City, California; and Springfield, Virginia. After high school I attended 2 years of university at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. After my sophomore year I left the academy to serve a mission. I've been called to serve in the London, England mission. I really like sports, especially American football, wrestling, hiking, and running. At school I studied military history; history has always interested me. I also enjoy reading and listening to music.

Why I am a Mormon

Despite being born in and growing up in the church, I didn't develop a testimony for myself until I was 13 years old. It came from a challenge issued by my youth leader to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. I felt the need to read it because my knowledge of the church was based on what my parents and church leaders had taught me. I wanted to know for myself so I took his challenge and began to read. When I finished reading I knelt down to pray, and I had an experience similar to what the prophet Alma describes in Alma 36. In that chapter he describes to his son going from dreading being brought to stand before God to having a longing to be with God, his Eternal Father. That experience and others since then have given me such joy and a strong faith in this church. I've experienced joy and sorrow, joy from following the commandments, and sorrow from trying to do things my way without the constant companionship of the Spirit. My testimony is that living the gospel helps you to feel the joy that God intends for you to feel, and it brings you closer to Him. I'm a Mormon because even though the match isn't finished yet and there's still a lot more fight in front of me, I know what the final score is going to be. I know that God cannot nor does He fail, in the end He wins, so why would I not fight for him? I'm a Mormon because God loves me and has prepared a way for me to win too.

How I live my faith

One of the best ways to grow personally is to help others, even if it means going out of your way to do so. Constantly looking for opportunities to serve and support others helps me keep a sense of direction and purpose. As a missionary I get to spend every day trying to help those around me, most of them being total strangers. Growing up my Dad liked to tell me that 'all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.' Knowing that there is a God gives me strength to stand up for the commandments he invites us to live, because what God asks of us will bring us happiness in living it. Actions speak so much louder than words, and so I try to let my actions speak for me. I try to 'do something' to help others and myself avoid things that keep us from happiness and are by nature evil.
