Hi I'm Alexander de Vries

I enjoy racquetball, acting, singing, and being myself. I'm serving a fulltime mission in Hungary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Nanaimo, British Columbia till I moved to Alberta with my family 15 years ago. As the oldest of 5 boys, I learned of the importance of sticking up for those that are in need of support and the importance of healthy family relationships. According to what the environment around me is, I can be as calm and serene as humanly possible to being as wild and bizarre as the situation calls for. I've always enjoyed creating lasting friendships with the people around me and believe that differences can be settled peacefully, and with minimal violence. Music is a large part of my life, considering my family is very musically oriented. You would be hard pressed to find me without some sort of tune playing through my head. Whenever I have the time, I enjoy playing sports, going to dances, hanging with my friends, going to various choirs, and spending time playing games with my family. I am currently serving a mission in Budapest, Hungary for two years and I am super excited to dedicate two years of my life to my father in heaven. Although at the moment I’m unsure as to what career to pursue, I know that a higher education is important and that I’ll have two years to figure it out.

Why I am a Mormon

The Gospel of Jesus Christ Has filled my life with Joy. I have read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and have prayed to my father in heaven if the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have received a witness from the Holy Ghost of the truthfulness of the book of Mormon, and because of this I have an unshakable faith in my lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I know with all my heart and soul that Jesus is the Christ, that he is my savior and that I have a heavenly father that loves me and wants what's best for me. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of god, that he knelt in a grove of trees searching for the truth, and that he saw god the father and Jesus Christ. I'm thankful for the example that Jesus has given us and I constantly try to be like him. Although I my slip and mess up at times, I know that he still loves me and provided the atonement so that we can return to his presence. Through being baptized and recieving the gift of the holy ghost, and through this i have been guided throughout my life. I know that families can be together for time and all eternity through following god’s commandments, living as he would have me do, and being sealed to my family for time and all eternity. I know that a prophet of God, President Monson is on the earth today providing us with revelation from god. I know that this Church is true and that if you read the book of Mormon and pray with real intent to see if it is true, that you will gain a testimony that it is the word of God.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ has guided my life for as long as I can remember. Whenever I can I try to live as Jesus would have me live. There's nothing that I have ever experienced in my life that can bring a peace of mind and a tangible joy than serving my fellow man and doing what I believe to be the right thing to do, even if I’m the only one doing it. Whenever I meet someone I haven't met before I’ll try to befriend them (after I get past the initial shy guy mentality), and I’ll often try to be a support, a rock that people can use to support them whenever life seems to be dragging them down. I often try to be as polite to everyone as far as the situation will allow me, and whenever I see people in a quarrel I try to see both sides and try to help in whenever way I can. Every month, I go with my friend and go visit families that go to our church so that I can befriend them, provide them with service, and just be there to share their worries, their triumphs and their hopes. I also go visit people with the missionaries whenever possible because the spirit that I feel when I’m with them, watching and helping share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others makes me feel the Holy Ghost stronger and I feel like I’m doing something worthwhile with my time. I truly believe that one of the best ways to be a follower of Jesus Christ is not to just say that you believe in his words, but to live and breathe the words of Christ. As I go through my daily life I constantly have the words of Christ in my mind, and by studying the words of Christ, that the spirit will guide me on how I should live my life.
