Hi I'm Sam Petersen

I make world renowned omelets. I've skied 17 consecutive ski seasons. I cut fish in Alaska. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being outside: skiing, running, biking, swimming, hiking, volleyball, tennis, sledding, etc. If I have to be inside it's ping pong, piano, singing, reading. I can't sit through a whole movie. I enjoy driving without music. I spent a summer in Ketchikan, Alaska cutting salmon, halibut, and any other Pacific fish you can think of. I'm at college determined to learn all I can about the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon family. Among my ancestors on both sides are Mormon pioneers that witnessed the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and made great sacrifices in the face of great persecution. In spite of my deep Mormon roots, I wasn't born with a conviction of the veracity of the Church or Gospel. I went through my childhood very happy to attend church with my family and participate in church programs and activities. However, I came to realize that I didn't have the capacity to say "I knew" what I was living was God's will or that the Church I was attending was truly Jesus' church. At age 14 I decided to ask God if the Church I had attended for 14 years was His. And to ask Him if the Book of Mormon, "the Keystone of our religion," was a true book. I began praying to know these things and prayed and prayed. It took me weeks and a series of spiritual events, but God answered my prayers in the affirmative. The Holy Ghost enlightened my mind and touched my heart in an indescribable but very real manner. Years later I boldly testify with all conviction that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the Kingdom of God on the earth, that Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration, and that the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. This testimony I have is the foundation of why I follow Jesus. It is the base of my faith in Christ.

How I live my faith

I serve in the office duties of my congregation with financial record keeping.
