Hi I'm Jacob

I live in West Virginia, I'm an Eagle Scout, I love my savior Jesus Christ, I'm preparing to serve a mission, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've pretty much lived my whole life in West Virginia, and I know from experience visiting my West Coast family members' wards that there's a difference in church activity between here and there. My ward is fairly small, but those who attend church meetings are some of the friendliest people I know, and I try to be a good example to my peer group at school and church. One of my pastimes is video gaming (as in: Mario, Sonic, Portal, etc.), but I do also enjoy reading good books. I'm currently preparing to serve in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission, which is really exciting for me, and even though I know it will require a lot of work, I think It'll be a great experience.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I've come to know of myself that what I've been taught, what I've read, and what I've seen are true, through prayer and keeping the commandments. Moroni 10:4-5 says: "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." So that is what I have done. First, gain knowledge and read; second, pray sincerely to know of the truth of the word; and finally, be willing to let the Spirit enter your heart.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending and participating in church meetings, reading the Book of Mormon daily, helping to serve others when I have the opportunity, and gaining experiences through church activities. As an example, recently, I went on a Mini-Mission for a week, doing the things real missionaries do with two real, actively serving Elders, and it was awesome. I gained the knowledge that you need to find a balance between working and having fun. If you only go through the motions of being a missionary and focus on numbers, you will probably not get along with your companion or build relationships with the people you meet. On the other hand, if you are only out to have fun, no work will get done, and the main reason for being on a mission is to invite others to come unto Christ. You just need to be willing to follow the promptings of the Spirit to know when to be serious or to lighten up a bit.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We don't worship Joseph Smith; we just appreciate all he did for us. God, our Heavenly Father, and his son Jesus Christ are who we worship. Joseph Smith was Heavenly Father's mouthpiece on the earth, like all prophets. Prophets are very righteous people who God chooses to do his work and hold priesthood keys on the earth. The prophet receives inspiration from God and informs the church on what God wants us to know or do. Joseph Smith had no different authority than Moses or Abraham, and our Heavenly Father through Joseph Smith established his church, once more, on the earth. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Missionaries are cool. They don't try to sell you vacuum cleaners or candy bars. They just want to say a little about what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does, where it comes from, and what the Book of Mormon is. Show more Show less
