Hi I'm Krystyl!

I am an aspiring scientist. I love oldies music, dinosaurs, and chocolate. I struggle with depression. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I was born in London, but grew up in the United States. I served a mission, teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the amazing people of Chicago! I have always loved science (except chemistry, but to each his own :) ) and I feel that a good study of astronomy, geology, physics, and biology proves that there is a God. Right now, I am a geology student at Utah Valley University (NOT BYU)! I love to meet people of different nationalities, cultures, and religions. I am part of a club at school that meets with ESL (English Second Language) students to help them practice their English skills. I grew up in this church. My faith has gone up and down over the years. I hit a period as a young teenager where I wanted nothing to do with religion, and I have had recent life experiences that, at times, led me to question whether or not God cared about me or whether or not He was even there. The amazing thing about God, though, is how patient and loving and personal He really is. Every time I have hit these low periods, He has reached down and carried me through, just like the "Footprints in the Sand" poem. My journey has not been easy and I still have hard times-- everyone does. But I know that God has been there for me, that He has carried me through, and that He will carry you through, too. Just call on Him!

Why I am a Mormon

Many have questioned my testimony of this church. I know beyond any doubt whatsoever that it is the true church. The reason why I am a Mormon is because of whose church this is. The reason why I believe, and am proud to believe, in the Book of Mormon, in Jospeh Smith as a Prophet of God, is because of whom the Book of Mormon is a testament of, and because of the ones who appeared to Joseph Smith in a grove of trees in New York when he was 14. That reason is Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They are there. They are. And they love us-- you, me, and everyone we meet and see every day. The reason why I know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are real, are loving, are all powerful, is because they have come to my aid personally, and although I have never seen them, I have felt their presence and heard their words. I am not perfect-- I make mistakes every day. I don't pretend that my problems are gone. I don't pretend that I don't go crazy from time to time. But this Gospel has made me a much better person than I could ever hope to be without it. This church is the Lord's church. And it is true-- all of it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to help and encourage others. It's amazing what good a simple compliment or kind word will do for someone, whether they are struggling or not. When I reach out to others, that is when God lifts my own burdens. Seriously-- it happens every time! ;) I also like to live my faith through music. I have participated in choirs, singing uplifting songs that give thanks to God and comfort my sometimes aching heart. Music has a way of connecting with your soul that is very unique, and much of my faith in God and His church has been strengthened by music.

Are Mormons Christians?

It makes me really sad when some people think that we are not Christian or that we don't believe in Jesus Christ. We are, one hundred percent. The center of everything we do in church, in Temples, in our families, and in our lifestyle is Jesus Christ. He is the way. He is everything. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

I think of the Lord's church like a soccer team. You have forwards, midfielders, defenders, and goalies. They have different roles to play, but no one position is more important than the other. But if you had a whole team of nothing but forwards, where would the game go? The Lord directs His church in the same way. Men have responsibilities in the Priesthood and women have responsibilities in the Relief Society organization, which gives them the opportunity to reach out in compassionate service to others, to lead others, and to add their talents to the world. Both are equally important and you cannot have one without the other. I am proud to be an LDS woman involved in the Relief Society, and in no way do I feel treated second to men. How can I know Mormonism is true?

Look to the truths you already know. If you believe in the Bible, when and how did you learn for yourself that it was the Word of God? If you believe in God, how did you come to know Him? If you do not believe in God, look inside yourself and find the things you believe in, such as love or kindness. How did you learn that they are what's right? Whatever way you came to know these great truths, it is through the same process that you can and will know for yourself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. Also, you can know it is true by trying it out! Read the Book of Mormon and follow its teachings, and ask God if it is His word. See what this process does for you-- if you become more at peace in your life, if you become a better person, if you feel warm and happy, if you draw closer to God, and if you find answers to the questions you have been asking your whole life. Those things happened to me. And, as you sincerely and humbly search and ask God, these things will happen to you, too. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

One thing that tells me there is a God is the fact that everyone has inside of them a light-- beauty, talents, and worth, and something to give to this world. We don't merely survive in this life, but we grow, discover, and create. I really feel that these gifts are given and these actions are driven by an inherent knowledge and memory, no matter how deep, that there is a higher power out there, and that this higher power is a Being with a name and a face and a body like ours and a love for each of us, that we are related to Him and connected to Him, and that we want to become like Him and return to live with Him forever. Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

The comning forth of the Bible was actually vital for the Restoration of the Gospel to take place. Without its truths, we would all be in darkness. The Restoration of the Gospel is equally important because, although the world has cherished the Bible for centuries, they have also interpreted it thousands of different ways, leading to confusion, division, and the formation of different churches with different teachings and different names. Only through the wonderful blessing of the Restoration of the Gospel and the gifts that come with it can people know for sure who God is and what His plan is for us. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

I have met many people who were attracted to the same sex, and I did not view them negatively at all. They are children of God and my brothers and sisters. Regarding same sex relationships, we believe in Heavenly Father's plan for families. We strongly uphold marriage between a man and a woman because it plays a vital role in Heavenly Father's plan and it allows us to reach our greatest potential as God's children. Show more Show less
