Hi I'm Austen Leland Oviatt

I am a Canadian, from Edmonton, Alberta. I don't play Hockey and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to play sports, Rugby and Basketball are my favorites. I played for my high school Rugby team. I enjoy reading as well. I have taken 1 year of university, just general science classes, and plan on becoming a Dentist. I have a beat up old 1986 Toyota Corolla and I love to go out and work on my car. I have spent hours trying to fix up and clean up and trying to save my car. I have an amazing family! I am the 7th of 9, and the 5th of 7 boys. I have 18 nieces and nephews, and children are a huge part of my life. I love all my relatives and one of my favorite weekend activities was taking one of my nieces or nephews out for an ice cream cone to try and secure my place as their favorite uncle.

Why I am a Mormon

I have 8 brothers and sisters and am the 3rd youngest. As such I have the opportunity to see the lives of my siblings and look at their decisions and their progression. I know where they came from, and and know where they are right now, and I can see where they are going. I love all my brothers and sisters so much, but I can see the differences in their lives between the ones who have the truth and the love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the ones who are trying to figure out this life and this world on their own. Of course, that is not the only reason that I am a Mormon. I came to a point in my life, having been raised Mormon, that I had to find out for myself whether or not I truly believed what I had been taught all my life. I did some serious study and reflection. I talked with friends and trusted adults in my life. I came to the conclusion that the only way I could know would be to study the gospel and to ask God myself if this was indeed the truth. And that was what I did. I read and studied and prayed. I worked very hard trying to learn, trying to know, trying to believe. And I know that I received and answer to my prayers. I know now that this gospel is the truth. I know that Jesus Christ died for all of us, that we may all live again. I know that Jesus established a church while he was alive on the earth, and I know that that church has been restored to this earth. This is not a new church, but rather it is the one true church, brought back again to the earth through a modern day prophet. I know that as I live this gospel I receive so much joy and happiness and I want everyone to have a chance to have this peace and love that I have felt. I know that this gospel is true. With all my being, I know.

How I live my faith

I currently am a full time missionary, serving in Quebec Canada. But before that I taught a class on Sundays at church that is full of a whole bunch of people that are older than me, and it is kind of intimidating sometimes. I have worked many jobs, and each different job I have been lucky enough to not have to work on Sundays so that I can go to church and spend time with my family. I get to help out sometimes with church activities, and plan dances for the youth. I love being able to help the youth come together in a safe environment and to have fun and spend time together.
