Hi I'm Shazina

I'm Pakistani. I'm the first Pakistani Missionary to serve in Australia. I love to share the gospel with everyone. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the second of four children. My Dad has six brothers and a sister so I have a lot of cousins. We like playing soccer and spending time all together. Many of us live together in separate apartments in the same house. We are all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My uncle, some of my cousins and my two brothers have served missions but I am the first Pakistani missionary to come to Australia. In my branch of the Church in Pakistan, I have served as Primary president, which involved organising activities for the children and teaching the gospel simply and clearly so they can understand. I love serving in Primary because it helps me grow more in my faith. Through prayer with a sincere heart I always receive my answers. Heavenly Father fulfils my wishes and gives me strength, and I feel the Spirit helping me in my life and my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Couple missionaries met my uncle about fifteen years ago and taught him about the restored gospel. He was baptised and became the first missionary from our branch. I was the next person in my family to join the Church, when I was twelve years old. Since then, all of my siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles have joined the Church. My Dad was the last one - he has been baptised while I have been on my mission. We were strong Catholics before, but now we have found the fulness of the gospel and it has changed our lives. Just like the prophet Alma said, my faith has grown from a small seed to a fruitful tree as I have prayed, read the scriptures and attended Church meetings regularly. I know we have modern prophets and the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I really like Moroni 10:3-5, which says if we read, ponder and pray we will learn the truth through the Holy Ghost. I represent Jesus Christ and follow His example because He is our Saviour and Redeemer.

How I live my faith

President Gordon B. Hinckley said every Church member is a missionary. It has been my dream since I was a kid to serve a full-time mission. When I was called to serve in Australia, I was excited but also nervous because I did not speak English. Heavenly Father has blessed me to learn English quickly. When I talk to people, ideas and words come to my mind. I am able to teach, and my testimony touches people's hearts and helps their faith grow. Because of visa problems, I had to wait a year before starting my mission. This story helped me be patient and continue to prepare by studying the scriptures every day to receive inspiration and become more like Jesus Christ: There was a man who sold umbrellas. Many people were walking past his shop. The salesman told the people, "My umbrellas are very nice. They will protect you from the sun and the rain. They only cost $5." One man listened and decided to buy an umbrella. His clothes were very nice and he was excited to buy the umbrella because it would protect him from the sun and the rain. He put it under his arm and walked home. Suddenly it started raining. The man's nice clothes were all wet. He thought, "The salesman told me this umbrella would protect me from the rain, but it's not protecting me. He lied." The next day, the man put the umbrella under his arm and walked to work. The sun was shining and he felt very hot and sweaty. He thought, "The salesman told me this umbrella would protect me from the sun, but it's not protecting me. He is not a good man." The man decided to go back and talk to the salesman about the umbrella. After a long discussion, the salesman asked, "Did you open the umbrella?" The man said, "No, I just put it under my arm." The salesman replied, "When you open the umbrella, then it will protect you." When we have hard times in life, if we open our scriptures and read the words of God they will help us and protect us. Because we are His children, He loves us and He always provides a way.
