Hi I'm Amelia Semones

I'm a daughter, a sister and an auntie. I'm currently serving a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a senior in college and I have decided to take a break from school to serve a mission. I've been on my mission for almost 15 months. I've had such an incredible experience being here. I have had the opportunity to serve in two missions. I started out in the California Carlsbad mission, but I was called to serve in the California Irvine mission when it was created in July 2013. A mission is a unique opportunity for individuals to forget themselves for 18 months to 2 years and focus on serving others. I have often heard that missions are the most selfless, selfish thing that anyone could ever do. I have seen that in my mission. I have focused my efforts to help everyone that I can, and yet, I feel that I have gotten so much more out of this experience than those I have tried to help. I love serving my Heavenly Father and his children.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in high school, I attended a Catholic school. I had the opportunity to study the Catholic faith and many others and compare them to what I had learned growing up in the church. I discovered then that there are many churches and faiths that contain truth. But I also saw that they only contained parts of the truth I had been taught. In every difficult situation that I have experienced, I have been able to find an answer to my questions by turning to the scriptures, to my church leaders and to the Lord. I know that I wouldn't have been able to find those answers in any other religion. I'm so grateful for the opportunities that I had as a teenager to learn these truths for myself and that I have been able to use those experiences as an adult to continue to learn and grow. Those experiences are one of the reasons that I have decided to serve a mission. I know that this gospel is true and I want to be able to share that peace that I have felt with others.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a full time missionary in the California Irvine Mission. I have learned so much in the time that I have served. One of my biggest anxieties about serving a mission was being away from my family for so long (18 months). However, one of the greatest things that I am learning is how much our Heavenly Father cares for us by giving us the ability to have eternal families. I know that no matter what happens, I will always have my family. Whether it is this life, or the next, we will always be together. All I need to do is focus on the now and what Heavenly Father would have me do. He has a plan and purpose for each of us, it's up to us to be obedient to His commandments and allow Him to direct us. That is how I am learning to live my faith. As I am obedient, not only am I blessed, but my eternal family is blessed too.
