Hi I'm Matt Gourley

I was born and raised in SLC Utah. My opinions are my own. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah where I have lived most of my life; though in my youth I was blessed with opportunities to have visited several states within the USA and even a few countries. I was born into a wonderful family who brought me up within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which has greatly blessed my life. The early years of my life were filled with many family memories; time spent camping, playing sports, singing & performing, and most importantly time simply spent being a family. I am a graduate of Brighton High School (1996) and hold an Associate of Arts in Business Degree (2008), a Bachelor of Science in Psychology Degree (2012), and a Masters in Psychology Degree with a concentration in Behavioral Health (2016). Shortly after my high school graduation I was honored to perform two years of service as a full time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Argentina Buenos Aires North Mission (1996-1998). The mission experience I had proved to be one of the most significant and influentially life altering experiences of my life; experiences that to this day and forever more I will value and cherish; along with the blessings of being sealed to my wife and having been miraculously blessed by our loving Heavenly Father to have been entrusted with bringing into this world two of His beautiful daughters.

Why I am a Mormon

The membership I have within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints extends well beyond the simplicity of having been born into a family which already had membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; I am one of millions of people who has earnestly sought God to know for myself that, Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah. There are many reasons why each of us choose to be members within the Church; some because of the promised blessings which are promised to the Lord's covenant people, some because of the fear of disobedience to God's laws, but the reason why I am Mormon is simply because it is the Lord's kingdom on Earth, and this simple truth has profound and eternal significance to me. There are many blessings which have come into my life by way of having obeyed the laws of God and following His prophet; but having received a surety from His Spirit, The Holy Ghost, that this is His kingdom and what my role is within His kingdom, is what has motivated me to covenant with God through the ordinance of baptism and be confirmed a member of His church.

How I live my faith

Currently I live my faith by serving as the High Priest Group Leader (2016) in a Spanish Ward in the Salt Lake Valley. Much of my responsibility in this present calling include focus on the family units in my community in helping them learn and perfect skills that bless their families in being better providers and spiritual protectors for their families. Some of these skills include self-betterment skills like creating and running a business, English as a second language, technology & computer skills, and family history skills. I also lead and set the standard for worship in the temple within my ward family. I have served in many callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; a calling is an appointment though inspiration by those who are in authority to serve under the authority and direction of the bishop in the appointment they have been called to serve in, once the appointment has been sustained before the congregation to which one lives. I have served as the 2 Counselor in the Spanish Branch Presidency (2013-2015), Primary Teacher (2013), Ward Mission Leader (2012), Stake High Counselor & Hispanic Initiative Representative (2009-2010), 1st Counselor in the Spanish Branch Presidency (2008), 2nd Counselor in the Spanish Branch Presidency (2006-2007), Executive Secretary (2004-2006, 2011), Stake Missionary (1999-2001), and full time Missionary in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1996-1998) and Home Teacher. As a home teacher I am responsible for providing watch care over several families within the community in which I live. This responsibility and duty within the priesthood I have been ordained to is, with exception of being a husband and father, the most sacred and significant calling I hold. It is through this calling that those who are in my stewardship of being cared for have the temporal and spiritual needs of their family attended to.
