Hi I'm Alicia

I am of East Indian decent. My family is from Guyana, South American and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I wasn't always a member of the church. The life I only dreamed about was the life of a Mormon. Joining this church was the best decision I've ever made. I'm a simple girl with a semi complicated life...but who's life isn't complicated? Just trying to live it to the fullest. I enjoy simple things like going to the movies and spending time with friends and family. I try and travel to new places every year and see the world little by little.

Why I am a Mormon

I didn't grow up in the LDS Church. My Mom, being Hindu and my Dad Christian I struggled between the two religions. I did not feel a connection or that I belonged to any one of the two. In 2008, my mom came across some Mormon missionaries and wanted me to meet them. Not for their message but for their diligence and sacrifice for their church. Being young men far from home, my Mom decided to help their cause by inviting them to return weekly to take shelter from the summer heat. Unbeknownst to us, the Gospel of Jesus Christ was slowing entering our hearts. After hearing the first lesson from the Elders my mind and heart connected to the concept of the church. At that moment I realized I've always wanted to live a lifestyle with honor, respect, love and good works but modified my deepest desires to satisfy society. Within the next 5 months, my Mom and I start going to church, following the commandments, the words of wisdom and laws of chastity. In September 2008 my mom was baptized and two months later I was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joining this church has matured me in areas I never knew needed maturing. I had a deeper respect for myself and gained the confidence I needed to face to world. As a member I now see things in a different light and tough times aren't as devastating as they used to be. Having the gospel is a great foundation to take on the world and the benefits of this church are immeasurable. I know this church is true and with Jesus on my side I can do anything.

How I live my faith

I currently attend a single's church where I associate with people my age. I was called to be a teacher for the women's group and when I was at my family ward I taught the young women between the ages of 16-18. Teaching these classes gave me a chance learn about the church as a young woman since I didn't join until age 25. I also visit teach sisters from the church monthly and keep in constant contact with them to make sure they are ok Showing my support and sharing my experiences with my peers, co-workers, non-member family and friends allow me introduce a new way of living for eternal happiness.
