Hi I'm Jim

I grew up in Michigan, married my high school sweetheart, worked forty-four years in healthcare and I'm a Mormon

About Me

Together now for 46 years, my wife and I raised six children and so far we have 22 grandchildren. Originally from Michigan, we have lived in ten different cities and traveled throughout the world for work and fun. We hope to continue to discover new places together. After serving in the Army from 1970-72, my career was in medical technology and then sales and marketing for a leading medical diagnostics company. I am now retired, but certainly not idle. Besides travel, my favorite hobbies are golf and genealogy. Of course, my passion is my amazing family. Since five of our six families live 1-2 hours away, and we live on a lake in Texas, great family times are at the "resort" as they like call our home.

Why I am a Mormon

While teaching a class in the military in 1971, one of my students handed me a small paper upon which he had written, " If you knew that the church of Jesus Christ was here upon the earth today with all the same power, glory and authority that it had when Christ established his church in the meridian of time, would you be interested?" I told him that if I could KNOW, I would be interested, but that I didn't think anyone could know for certainty. I had long wondered how I might obtain faith let alone sure knowledge of God. He suggested he bring a couple "friends" to my home to share the rest of the story. Frankly, as I read about the restoration and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, I found it just too preposterous to believe. But something kept prompting me to read more - to read that Book of Mormon. So I began to read and when I came to a very profound sermon on faith given by a prophet in 74 BC named Alma, I was completely overcome by the Spirit who bore powerful testimony of not only the truth of Alma's words, but also of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. My unbelief turned instantly to faith and quickly to a sure knowledge. I have since come to know many other profound truths, most importantly that we are literally children of a loving Father in Heaven. Over and over Jesus testified of the Father and, while is mission was indeed to atone for our sins, his message was that his Father is also our Father. Can you imagine how the world could change as we all come to understand that we are literally brothers and sisters and literally children of God. The knowledge of our Father in Heaven's plan for us has totally changed my life. As I have served Him and my Savior Jesus Christ the Holy Ghost has repeatedly born witness to my heart that this is indeed His gospel and His church restored in these latter days to prepare the world for his return.

How I live my faith

The Lord's church is perfectly organized to provide each willing member many opportunities to learn and grow through service both in and out of the Church - no prior skill necessary. In my forty-two years as a member, I have had so many choice experiences serving others. I have been called to serve in many capacities from Sunday school teacher to both adults and youth, young men and Boy Scout leadership, missionary work, and congregational stewardship. I have had the opportunities to provide special instruction in subjects such as family budget management, genealogy, and emergency preparedness. Most enjoyable has been the fellowship we have enjoyed with others who share our faith and devotion to our Savior Jesus Christ. I enjoy sharing my testimony of the Lord's restoration of his church and his atonement for us whenever the chance comes my way.

In whom should we have faith?

Jim
A fundamental truth taught in the scriptures is that we all are literally children of our Heavenly Father and we were all with Him before the world ever was. I have taught my family that Father in Heaven has a perfect plan for us, wherein he has sent us here to "earth university" that we might learn for ourselves the nature of our spirits and whether we will follow the guidance given by a loving Father in Heaven. We live by our faith in the Father's plan and His guidance given to us by scripture and living prophets of God. Heavenly Father (and we) knew that we would sin and fall short. Because He loves us so much, He sent his first-born son and our eldest brother, Jesus Christ to redeem us. Jesus wrought an atonement for us because of his incredible love for us and by virtue of his perfect life and through his unimaginable suffering in Gethsemane and on the cross. Our faith in Jesus Christ and his atonement on our behalf qualifies us to present to him a broken heart and contrite spirit, thus through our repentance, baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost we have a hope to return to the presence of the Father washed clean by the blood of the Lamb. Faith in God is more than a theoretical belief in Him. To have faith in God is to trust Him, to have confidence in Him, and to be willing to act on your belief in Him. It is a principle of action and power. Show more Show less
