Hi I'm Austin

I'm a university student. I love learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like movies and playing trivia games. I attend a university and enjoy studying the classics. I like art and I especially love the European baroque. I am trying to become fluent in Spanish. I am an Eagle Scout. I was student body president in my high school and learned a lot through that experience. I love learning about history and I like to keep up on current events and learn what's going on in the political world and how we can make it better.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have studied the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ many times and I know that it comes from God. When I read it I learn things that help me in my own personal life and discover truths that shed further light on Jesus' teachings in the Bible. I have seen the protection and happiness people have in their lives when they follow God's commandments given through our church president, the Prophet. I have felt the truthfulness of this church witnessed to my soul and want to share that with others.

How I live my faith

I attend my local ward every Sunday and I've fulfilled many different responsibilities. I've taught Sunday School, been involved with our young men organization, and accompanied hymns on the piano. I watch and read what our church leaders say and try to live my life according to their counsel. I read the scriptures daily and learn new things every time I read them.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a law that God gave the prophet Joseph Smith about what we should take into our bodies. It specifically mentions that God doesn't want us to consume alcohol or use tobacco and that we should eat meat sparingly. It also says we should take advantage of the fruits, grains, and herbs God has made for us and use them to stay healthy. God promises that if we do these things he will bless us to be wiser and physically stronger. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was a farm boy who lived in the early 1800s. Early in his life, God called him to be a prophet just like Moses and Abraham. Joseph spoke with God and followed God's directions in establishing the Church and bringing forth new scripture. In 1844, after having suffered a life of persecution, he was finally killed as a martyr at the age of 38. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

We believe God created men and women equal. We believe that families function best when there is a man and a woman working together to lead the family. The church sees gender equality as a serious subject. If a male member of the church was found to be in any way abusing a woman in his life, he would be subject to the loss of church privileges. Boys are taught to respect women from a young age. Church apostles have given sermons on the holiness of womanhood. Single mothers and widows have members of the congregation assigned to look after them and care for their needs. We believe women are essential to the building of God's kingdom. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?
