Hi I'm Chanel

I'm a cereal lover pursuing a doctorate in Psychology, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up with four sisters, one of them being my identical twin. As a kid I liked to cause mischief by selling my peers backstage passes to the lunch-recess performances of my elementary school band "The Couch Potato Band." Although a surprisingly lucrative endeavor, the whole rockstar thing didn't work out for me in the long run, so I decided to go with Psychology instead. When I'm not attending classes, you can find me reading Kurt Vonnegut, David Sedaris, Irvin Yalom, and--my personal favorite--the scriptures.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because its teachings are true. The plan of salvation is real, and it truly is a plan of happiness. The gospel brings me joy and comfort and strength. It gives my life meaning and purpose, and guides my decisions. I am a member of the church because I have read The Book of Mormon and have received a confirmation from the Holy Ghost that its words are true. The power of prayer is such a gift, and through it I have gained a testimony that Heavenly Father in reality sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth not only to die for me, but also to live for me. The Savior experienced temptations and trials throughout his life, yet he never yielded to them. He heeded them not, aligning his will with the Father's, carrying out the Atonement. He lived a perfect life--for me, for you--so that we do not have to be perfect. He loves us. What a blessing!

How I live my faith

I live my faith through obedience, constantly striving to keep the commandments. When I fall short, I take the necessary steps to get myself back on the path, making sure to thank my Heavenly Father for the opportunity I have to correct my mistakes. The Atonement of Jesus Christ truly is such a blessing in my life, and I try to apply it every day--not just for my sins, but also for my weaknesses and infirmities. I do my best to be an example in the way I live my life, and to serve others as Christ has served me.
