Hi I'm Nolan

I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon)! I am a lifelong member.

About Me

I have been an educator for more than 30 years. I'm currently an elementary school principal, but I've done many things in my career. My original training was as a special education teacher and I still have a great interest and affinity for special education and students with special and unique needs. I am a father of four and a grandfather of six precious grandchildren. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family. My wife and I enjoy travel, hiking, bicycling, and studying the gospel together. We look forward to the opportunity to serve a Church mission together in a few years after my retirement. From 1973 to 1975 I served a full-time mission in Upstate New York, and this was a significant experience in my life that has been a blessing in a great many ways.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church, but I still had to develop my own testimony that it was the Lord's church. I developed that testimony through scripture study, prayer, testing the Lord's promises, and by obedience to His commandments. I have learned for myself that Jesus is my Lord, my Savior, and my Redeemer; that there are living prophets and apostles on the earth today, and that we need our Heavenly Father's guidance and direction today as much as anyone ever has. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and stands as a second witness of Christ's divine role and mission. I know that by learning and then obeying the will of God, I can have true and enduring happiness. I am grateful for the blessings of the temple for me and for my family. I know that through the sealing power of the priesthood that is available in the temple that my wife and I can be together eternally with our family to enjoy all of God's greatest blessings.

How I live my faith

I love serving in the Church. I have personally grown so much from this service and it gives me a sense of satisfaction to see my service benefit others. I am pleased to see the humanitarian work that the Church is doing throughout the world and would enjoy being called to serve as an humanitarian missionary some day. I have been involved in a few small projects in my community to reach out to other organization who help others with food, clothing, and shelter. I enjoy this kind of work and look forward to doing more. I see this as central to the Savior's example and doctrine to us that we should feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and visit the widow and fatherless; that we should visit those in prison and those who are sick and afflicted. I am currently involve in teaching the gospel to inmates in prison facilities here in Carson City. This has been a richly rewarding experience.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Nolan
Jesus was the only one who could atone for our sins and mortal weaknesses. He was the literal Son of the Eternal Father. In the pre-mortal world, his love for us was so great that He agreed to be the "lamb without blemish" who would offer himself a sacrifice for sin so that the Father's plan for His children might be accomplished. Because he paid the debt for our transgressions, we may overcome the world as we take upon us His name and are willing to submit to His will in all things. As we do this, our natures are changed and we become more like the Savior and more like our Father. We become more heavenly and this will one day help us feel comfortable in the presence of the Father and the Son and want to be with them always and enjoy the blessings of eternal life.
