Hi I'm Camille

I grew up on the Hualapai reservation by the Grand Canyon. I love serving my people in business and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was a part of the Placement Program where Native American children were placed with Mormon families after being baptised. I spent 6 years with a family in Orange County, California, then quit the program to attend school with kids I knew from my tribe in Arizona. Life was more challenging at the boarding school and I learned that our individual lives is how we make it to be. Feeling somewhat lost, I began soul searching since I had been quite distant from spiritual things and found myself very unhappy in life. I was left to myself with no father or mother and without siblings. I was guided after a couple of years to attend BYU and began a family there before I had the chance to complete a degree. Always wanting a large family, I was blessed with 8 children within 12 years. We had the opportunity to live in many places throughout the country which brought us to appreciate other cultures and lands, and I was proud to be an American. All of my children are grown now with grandchildren coming. I have 5 little grandchildren who are so bright and full of energy, it's a good thing I was young when I had mine. Four of my sons have gone on missions to Colorado, New Zealand, Italy, and Germany. I have learned it doesn't make one perfect to fulfill a mission, but gives them a foundation in loving the Lord and serving others. Two of my children have married in the temple which gives me much joy. I was sealed to my husband last year in the Oakland Temple. Life is wonderful!

Why I am a Mormon

Though I grew up in the church, I truly wasn't converted until after high school when I was 19 years old. Through the repentance process, I felt a change of heart and was given the chance to become a new person which changed my life forever. To keep from falling back in the past, I had to change my surroundings with new friends who desired the same things. I would not be who I am today if it wasn't for the love that Christ has shown me in my life. He has directed me when I have asked for his help. He has comforted me in times of sorrow and pain. He has given me joy and happiness through life's experiences. He has shown me truth through personal revelation. It is wonderful to know where we go after this life because we know where we came from before this earth life. It isn't just the church that makes a difference, but most importantly, it's the personal relationship I have built with my Lord. I am blessed with many wonderful things as I walk the straight and narrow... helping those who need my help along the way. I am thankful we have a living prophet today who leads this church along with 12 apostles who travel the world to share the message of Christ. The world needs guidance and a light to shine for those in the dark. I know what it was like and I want to be a light for others who have lost their way. We are the Lord's sheep and want to help find the lost ones. Being a part of this church brings comfort in knowing we have much support all over the world and are never alone no matter where we travel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the same no matter what country, city or town you're in. The teachings are the same because we have one Christ whom we follow as our Master. I know he lives. I have seen and felt him and I love him.

How I live my faith

Though I live in Phoenix, I attend church on one of the reservations nearby. I teach the women's organization one Sunday a month, work in the Mesa Temple once a week and am the Humanitarian Services Assistant for our Stake in Mesa. The best way to be a missionary is to live by example and act according to the teachings of Christ. When the opportunity arises I love sharing my knowledge of the Savior and how he has helped me in my life. Everyone has challenges, and life just is not easy, but when we ask for help with faith and trust in the powers from above, our Heavenly Father gives us strength to overcome and helps us deal with our situations. Being on earth in this mortal physical body, we are tempted with desires and cravings that we would not have if we were just spirits. None of us are perfect, but we strive to do what is right and we occassionally make mistakes. It is ok as long as we learn from them and continue bettering ourselves as we ask for forgiveness. I try to live the higher law where my mind is in control and my spirit is stronger than my physical self.

What is the Book of Mormon?

It is a history written by prophets of our ancestors on this continent and God's dealings with them. It has given me answers when I have had questions. It is scripture and we use it hand in hand with the Bible. Show more Show less
