Hi I'm Melissa

I grew up in the southern peninsula of Michigan and I am an artist!

About Me

I am an artist, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a runner, a teacher and an all around fun person. In the last year I completed a second master's degree (in arts administration), volunteered as a den leader for the Boy's Scouts of America, worked out of the home, worked in the home and parented with my husband our three children.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know this is the only church that has all the pieces to the puzzle of life. I know I can get answers from my Father in Heaven and I do not have to depend on any other person in this world for those answers! I have, and can receive, direct revelation for my life from our Father in Heaven--just like you. I know that only in the church can families be made eternal. I want to be with my husband, my children and my parents after this life. I love them, I want to be connected to them in a real way and I know the church gives me that opportunity. I am a member of this church because I have had repeated confirmation of its' truthfulness from the Holy Ghost. I cannot ignore those answers.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing the daily things that bring peach such as touching base with friends, reading scripture, having family prayer. I also have provided volunteer service in the church over the years by serving as a leader in the primary, youth and adult women's programs; I have served helping other find employment and I have served as a sunday school teacher. I served a full-time mission in Mississippi. I strive to be my best everyday. Do I fail at this? Well, yes I do! Then I try again. That is the great thing about the gospel. ..the Lord wants me to try daily to be my best, but He understands that I will fall short. My goal is to get up and try again each day. I have days that are tough to get through just like everyone else. But I know I can get through by applying gospel principles daily.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are smart, passionate, caring, funny, hard working, tenacious, provide service, creative, talented, great friends, quiet, rowdy, love education, and are outgoing; We are each unique and different but we hold true to many core principles in the church. We know who we are as daughters of God. We are equal partners with our husbands in raising our children, running our households and living life. Yes, our role is different from our husbands, but that does not make it demeaning or less important. I love being a mother and I love parenting with my husband as an equal partner. Mormon women are leaders. We set the tone of our homes and our communities by not acting with embarrassment in regard to being a wife or mother. We are not ashamed of our families but understand that families are eternal and our family relationships will continue after this life. We hold the responsibility of teaching, nurturing and leading seriously as we know our knowledge and our experiences are what we take with us from this life. Show more Show less
