Hi I'm Rachel

I'm an interior designer, a big fan of punk music, a mother of two, and a widow. I'm lucky to be a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern California and love all things sand and surf related. I met the love of my life when I was 19 and married him in the San Diego Temple when I was 20. We had two cute boys together and an amazing life. My husband passed away 4 1/2 years after we were married. I moved to Salt Lake City, UT shortly after that and put myself through school where I got a degree in interior design. My boys and I have learned to adjust and we have a great life. They play soccer and take swim lessons and every Saturday we go to the library together and then get frozen yogurt. That's my secret to making your kids great readers! I love music and concerts, plays, all things interior design, traveling, kayaking, gardening, making lists and knowing where my remote controls are. You know, the basics.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of this faith and I've always loved it . I've always had a strong testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was God's church. When my husband died, I felt like I had reached this moment of truth. Here I was at 24, widowed, with a 2 year old and a 4 month old. I had been married in the temple and had been taught that because of those sacred covenants I made, that when I died I would be reunited with my husband and my family would be together forever. I had been taught that my Savior would never abandon me. I remember sitting on my couch, thinking about these things and asking myself: do you believe these teachings? Do you trust them? And the answer was unequivocally YES. My Savior did not abandon me. He supported me and comforted me and healed me through the power of the atonement. I'm a Mormon because I know that this is God's church. I'm a Mormon because I love my Savior and want to show my gratitude for the sacrifices He made for me. I'm a Mormon because it brings me true joy. I'm a Mormon because my family is eternal and one day, I will hold my husband again.

How I live my faith

Well, I guess I live my faith one step at a time. Being a single working mother doesn't leave a lot of free time so I try to focus on the most important things in life and for me, faith is definitely one of those. We read our scriptures and pray together every night, and we go to church on Sunday. But more than that, I try to live a life that makes my Heavenly Father happy. I try to live honestly, be kind to others, and help out when people need it; whether that means bringing a meal to someone who just had a baby, or chocolate and gossip magazines to a friend who's having a rough time (don't judge, it seriously helps!). I just want to be the kind of daughter that a Father can be proud of.
