Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of this church. I have been taught of the Gospel by wonderful parents, leaders, neighbors, and extended family members, though I was not always so sure about the gospel. However, I have learned for myself that this church is true. I know that this Gospel is true and without it, I don't know where I'd be. I love the peace and the strength it gives me to know of the Gospel. The Book of Mormon and The Bible have helped me so much in my life. As I read them, I am able to see more connections and come to be closer to my Father in Heaven and His son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. I'm thankful for my parents and church leaders for always teaching me about these great books and the wonders they teach. They are so true and together, they are so powerful. They are a true inspiration for a wise purpose to bring about salvation and guidance for us all in these Latter-days. Joseph Smith restored this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He translated The Book of Mormon. There is no way he could have made up the stories found inside--they are messages from God to His prophets to share with the world. He was unlearned, yet he was able to translate it through the help and power of the Lord through his faith and obedience. Our prophet does receive revelation for us. If we are obedient to God's commands, we cannot fail. I cannot express how grateful I am for this church enough. I love it and it makes me so happy!

How I live my faith

I am on my stake/area youth council and I love it because I can associate with other youth in my area and participate in planning activities so they can be fun for all of the youth. I love the activities the church puts together. They are so spiritually uplifting and it's fun to associate with other people.

Are Mormons Christians?

Amanda
Yes! We believe in Jesus Christ. We just don't focus so much on His death, because He is living. We like to focus on His life teachings and example, so that we may become like Him through following those teachings and examples. We do not worship the cross or focus on it because that is not what we have been commanded to worship. Christ commanded His people to worship God. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart..." This shows that we are to focus on God and His teachings--not only the fact that He died, for the Atonement is so much deeper than that. What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Amanda
I have come so much closer to God from reading the scriptures. I always find myself happy whenever I read them. They always teach me something new and I learn so much each and every time I read. Studying the scriptures brings a new sense of power, strength, testimony, peace, love, and joy. It's so wonderful. Patriarchal blessings are personal scriptures meant just for us to guide us more in our lives. They are a personal message from God to tell us our lineage, of blessings we may receive from obedience and righteous living, and anything else which the patriarch feels so inclined and prompted to speak. These are printed for our use and when looked back on, we have much more personal revelation. I know as I have looked back on my patriarchal blessing, I have learned great things and had my own revelation from God. I know my divine destiny and I know what I must do to obtain it. In my High School years, I was able to participate in Seminary, a class for every other day to learn more about the Gospel. Seminary taught me how to search the scriptures, come to them with a prayer in my heart, have the spirit with me, and connect ideas, thus, learning much more from them than I ever have. I can now understand scripture with study guides, conference talks, my own notes written in, and guidance from the Holy Ghost. I truly love the scriptures. They have taught me so much in my life and have truly inspired me to do what's right that I may once again return to my Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Amanda
Faith is believing in something you cannot see, though it is very real and very true. Just because you cannot see something, does not make it fake. For example, can you see air, UV rays, or atoms with your naked eye? No, but that does not mean they are not real. Faith is a hope for things which are not seen, which are true. When you hope for something and act on it before you see what will happen in the end, that is similar to faith. Christ tells people that believe on Him without having to first see Him they are more blessed. If we have faith in Christ, He teaches we can be saved by faithful obedience to His laws. To have faith, one must work towards it. It's not something that suddenly appears. If we are prayerfully studying Christ's life, speaking with our Heavenly Father, and trying to live our lives according to His will, we can come to have that faith. It will start out small and, even out of sight, but it will grow as we are obedient to the commandments of God. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Amanda
Stars show me there is a God. It amazes me every time I see the stars. I stand amazed anytime I look around at nature. Trees, animals, plants, the sky, etc. always amaze me. They are so beautiful in different ways and I love it! No tree, human, animal, plant, or sky view is exactly the same. They are different and oh, so beautiful. It's what makes them special. It is so wonderful to think of how a God created all of these things. The fact that He took the time to create all of these things is so special and a wonderful thing. Show more Show less
