Hi I'm Kevin

I grew up in Small Towns in Western Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh, am a Husband and Father. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband a father that took the long road to find my way to my faith and family. I have seen some of the best and worst that the United Stated has to offer. I have been on the brink of homelessness, and have been comfortable in my surroundings. I am basically living the American Dream. I went to school in Smalltown, USA, and went to 3 different colleges before graduating with a degree in Network/Systems Administration - I am basically a computer geek. I work for a Contractor with the Federal Government and have been blessed to do what I love. The only thing missing in my life is a Tuba. In high school, I played the tuba and thought it was my career path before deciding that Computers really held my passion. I can play all of the brass instruments, most of the woodwinds, and I can make noise on the rest!

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? It is just the right place for me. I was not a religious person growing up. I was brought up in a household that did not go to church, and I had been inside a church so few times, I could count them on one hand and have fingers left. I was asked by a young woman if she could practice on me while we were in college together - she was considering going on a mission, and wanted to try teaching me. I let her know that I had no use for organized religion, and that Science would give me all the answers that I needed. I still laugh at my naivete. I thought I was going to give her a run for her money, and ended up being the one to go back the next night to ask for more. I never looked back, and was baptized less than 2 months later. I know that this Church is true, and I know that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God. I know that my Redeemer lives, and he is not just the savior of the world, but MY OWN personal redeemer. He knows me better than I could ever know myself, and I am grateful for His atoning sacrifice and just a little ashamed of myself for the afflictions and sins in my life that added to His pain.

How I live my faith

I have three responsibilities in my ward right now. I teach a group of men about scripture and Presidents of the Church. I am also a secretary in the young mens organization, in this group, we help 12-18 year old boys learn about their role in the world and the church. We help to prepare them for becoming Missionaries as well. My most recent duty is as a Cub Scout Den Leader. I am still learning how to do this, as I have not done scouting in my past. It is wonderful how the Church brings us together and helps those who are called to serve as much as, if not more than, those who are being served. I have learned so much from my time as a teacher and secretary from those I interact with, I feel I receive the true blessings.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Kevin
Families CAN be together forever! This was something that really sparked my curiosity. There are several scriptural references that tell us this, and I am just glad to know that I can have the love of my family in eternity as well as the here and now. Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).
